The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on Community Development, Dr. Patrick Ighomrore JP, has enrolled over 150 Uvwie indigenes and others residing in Uvwie Local Government Area into the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme.

According to Dr. Ighomrore, who is also a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, the enrollment is free for all beneficiaries, assuring that as time goes on, he is ready to increase the number as part of efforts to encourage a healthier Uvwie, which includes all residents in the LGA.

The free Health Scheme enrollment, held on Tuesday, July 15, at Ugwu’Udi Family Hall, Egodokporo, Effurun, witnessed a large turnout of beneficiaries and family members, as well as close associates expressing solidarity and appreciation to Governor Oborevwori.

While welcoming dignitaries, Dr. Ighomrore, in his remarks at the event, said: “This gathering transcends mere ceremony; it underscores our shared dedication to community progress, human well-being, and ensuring equitable access to superior healthcare across our society.

“Permit me to begin by appreciating His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his people-focused vision and unwavering support for policies that enhance the lives of our citizens. The Delta State Contributory Health Scheme is one such initiative that aims to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to every Deltan, regardless of their socio-economic background. It is in this spirit that I, as a public servant and son of Uvwie, have decided to sponsor the enrollment of one hundred and fifty (150) indigenes—men, women, and youths—on this scheme.

“This initiative reaches beyond social and political lines, reflecting our shared humanity and collective responsibility. It represents my modest but sincere contribution to the vision of a healthier Uvwie, one where access to quality medical care is not a privilege for a few but a right for all. No one should be left behind when it comes to their health and well-being. I also hope this gesture inspires other well-meaning individuals and stakeholders to embrace the spirit of giving back, particularly in critical areas like healthcare and the development of our human capital.

“Today’s event marks another milestone in our ongoing efforts to uplift the vulnerable among us. It is a reminder that development is most meaningful when it directly touches lives, and leadership is most impactful when it places people at the center of every policy or action. I believe that access to healthcare is not a luxury but a right, and through this enrollment, we take a bold step in making that right a reality for our people.

“I am deeply grateful for the presence of our distinguished guests, esteemed stakeholders, dedicated health officials, respected community leaders, and all well-wishers who have taken the time to join us for this momentous occasion. Your presence is not only an honor but a powerful affirmation of our collective commitment to building a healthier, more inclusive Delta State. Together, we stand in firm support of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ and the promise it holds for a brighter future for all our people.”

Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Olorogun Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, commended Dr. Ighomrore for his kind gesture in bringing free healthcare to the people of Uvwie, saying it’s complementary to Governor Oborevwori’s healthcare program for Deltans.

DG Akpoveta also presented a Special Award of Health Insurance Ambassador (HIA) to Dr. Ighomrore in recognition of his outstanding contribution to improving healthcare access for vulnerable members of communities in Delta State.

He urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the free healthcare opportunity given to them by the donor.

Some beneficiaries, Kojo Okorokporo and Blessing Kanabar, hailed Governor Oborevwori’s Senior Special Assistant on Community Development and prayed God to elevate him in his endeavors, promising to mobilize for him and the governor in 2027.

Notable government officials and stakeholders present at the brief event included: Chairman Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, Chief Solomon Ighrakpata; Commissioner for Economic Planning, Sunny Ekedeyan; Delta Trust Mortgage Bank Boss, Jude Ogbimi; Chief Popo; and PRO of the Health Commission, Comrade Patricia Gbemudu.
