Warri South has emerged in second position with silver in the overall medal table in the just concluded State Universal Basic Education Board/Universal Basic Education Commission Basic Education School Sports Festival.

The Basic Education School Sports Competition finals, which were held Monday, October 27, at the Delta State University of Science and Technology school field in Ozoro, saw Pessu Primary School, Warri football team thrashing Obioma Primary School football team of Obinomba by 4 goals to 1.

The two-week Basic Education School Sports Festival brought pupils from public primary schools across the three Senatorial Districts of Delta, competing intensely in athletics, table tennis, scrabble, football, among others.

The competition also discovered a young talented boy from Nana Primary School who won the Scrabble competition in the tournament, making him the youngest to have emerged in that category.

The Education Secretary, Warri South, Mrs. Omatsone Augusta, who was highly elated, commended the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Samuel Oghenevwogaga Mariere, and the entire organizers for their good job done.

Mrs. Augusta Omatsone also hailed the hard-fighting Pessu Primary School football team for winning the football game, which earned them the spot to represent Delta State in the upcoming National UBEC football championship in Bauchi State. She also felt very proud of the Scrabble competition winner Wealth Esegbue, describing him as a genius.

Sapele came in first position on the medals table, getting 500 thousand Naira, while Warri South came second with 300 thousand Naira and Ndokwa in third place.

Sports Officer – Menekporo Joshua, HPM – Onoghuvwu MaryJane, Asst. Director Ajuyah Roy were among the staff of Warri South Local Education Authority that expressed support for Warri South teams.
