A highly respected newspaper columnist and newspaper reviewer, Alhaji Majeed Dahiru, has called for the stoppage of Sharia law practice in Nigeria, saying it’s divisive and causes injustice as Nigeria is a secular state.
Alhaji Dahiru made the call Tuesday, November 4, during a newspaper review session on AIT Kakaaki morning show, where he emphasized the need for Nigeria to be secularized and the removal of religion from every architecture of the state so that “all of us can be protected. So no state should be an Islamic state, and no state should be a Christian state. None. Absolutely, that’s in terms of policy.”
According to him, “the state that started this Sharia law is the most impoverished state in Nigeria today. It is the state that has the highest type of banditry today. That state was not able to pay minimum wage since 1999 until recently, when Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara was attempting to pay some minimum wage.”
Alhaji Dahiru further used the opportunity to urge President Tinubu, as a matter of urgency, to meet and discuss diplomatically with the Qatari government and the UAE in order to find a better way forward to resolve the ongoing political imbroglio with President Trump and the U.S. government.
