**Eyes Medal Haul At National Youth Games, Sports Festival As Preparations Intensify
The Nasarawa State Government has urged the two State-owned Football Clubs, Nasarawa United(male) and Nasarawa Amazons(female) to win this season’s Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, and the Nigeria Women’s Premier Football League.
According to Eche Amos, Head of Public Relations, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, during an exclusive interview with members of the press at the final of the 2025 Nasarawa State Governor’s Cup Football Tournament between Karu Local Government Area and Wamba Local Government Area held on Monday, 16th February, 2026, at the Lafia City Stadium, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. kwanta Yakubu, expressed unbridled optimism that the State-owned Premier League Clubs will emerge triumphant in Nigeria’s domestic football league titles and secure continental tickets.
“As a responsible Government, we remain committed to seeing our teams, both Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons football Clubs, play in the continent, not just to win the domestic league titles.
“We are working day and night with a view to seeing that this ambition is achieved.”
Kwanta emphasized that the Clubs have the potential to make history and bring pride to the State.
“We have talented players, committed coaches, and passionate fans – the ingredients for success are all there.”
He urged the Clubs to work together, leverage strengths, and capitalize on opportunities to make a mark on the national and international stages.
“The Government continues to make huge investments on the teams. So, we expect nothing but excellence from them, and I believe, with the support of every stakeholder,we can achieve success together.”
Both Nasarawa United FC and Nasarawa Amazons FC are currently in ambitious positions on the league tables to actualize the targets of the State Government.
On Team Nasarawa’s goals for the forthcoming National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, and the National Sports Festival in Enugu State, the Commissioner opined that the State is redoubling its efforts to outperform its achievements in the previous editions.
“As for preparations for the forthcoming National Sports Festival and National Youth Games to be hosted in Enugu and Delta States respectively, we have already begun discussions on those national activities, and in the coming days, we will be setting up committees that will kickstart Nasarawa State’s preparations to ensure that we are in good spirits heading to the multi-sports events.
“We had a great outing in the last editions, and we have equally learnt some important lessons that could help guide us in our subsequent outings.
“We have upgraded some of our sporting facilities, and we are committed to seeing that we acquire new and modern sports equipment to enable our athletes compete favourably with their counterparts from across the country.
“Suffice to say here that Governor Abdullahi Sule has graciously approved funds for the renovation of our swimming pool located inside the old Presidential Lodge in Lafia, and some other indoor sports facilities. This will certainly go a long way in putting our athletes in the best shape heading to the National Events later in the year.
“Already, the Lafia City Stadium has been renovated to meet requirements, and I want to thank the Governor for his relentless commitment towards sports development in the State”, Kwanta remarked.
