Deputy Governor, Onyeme Bags UNICAL Award of Excellence
The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., was on Friday July 31honored with an Award of Excellence by the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Alumni Association.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Offiong Effanga Effiong, and the National President of the UNICAL Alumni Association, Barr. Paul Eshemomoh, presented the award to the Deputy Governor during a colorful event in Asaba.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said the award was in recognition of Sir Onyeme’s outstanding contributions to public service and his role as a worthy ambassador of the institution.
He described Sir Onyeme as a distinguished alumnus and a shining light who continues to project the values and academic excellence of the University of Calabar in both his official and personal endeavors.
According to him, Sir Onyeme’s exemplary leadership, integrity, and dedication to the development of Delta State serve as an inspiration to current students and alumni worldwide.
”Sir Monday Onyeme represents the finest traditions of UNICAL; his track record in public administration and governance makes him a true flagship of our institution,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
Also, Barr. Eshemomoh described the Deputy Governor as a pride to the UNICAL alumni network.
In his response, Deputy Governor Onyeme expressed deep appreciation to the university management and the Alumni Association for the honor.
While dedicating the award to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for giving him the platform and support to execute his official responsibilities effectively, the Deputy Governor reiterated his commitment to promoting education and using his office to advance the welfare of the people of Delta State.
Sir Monday Onyeme earned his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Accountancy from the University of Calabar in 1990.
He has since built a distinguished career as a chartered accountant, tax administrator, and public servant.
Notable UNICAL alumni who witnessed the event included the Chief of Staff to the Delta State Government, Hon. Johnson Erijo, Hon. Sam Chukwuji, among others.
