Gov Oborevwori not in conflict with any past governor – Dr  Latimore

Gov Oborevwori not in conflict with any past governor – Dr  Latimore

*Says governor’s humility, sense of humor inestimable

A section of the online newspapers and social media community in public sphere, has been advised to stop fabricating stories alleging conflict between the incumbent governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, and former governor, Chief James Ibori.

Executive Assistant on Communications to the Governor, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, in response to trending misleading online publications, innuendos and insinuations, said governor Oborevwori has consistently call on well meaning Deltans, irrespective of political affiliation or ethnical nationality to join hands with him to move the state forward.

He told newsmen on Tuesday that the state governor is unarguably loved by the people, because of his uncommon humility, high sense of humor, respect for individuals and groups across board, adding that petty squabbles, malice and divisive tendencies are alien to the person and character of the governor.

Oghenesivbe, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Delta State Orientation Bureau, DSOB, appealed to members of the public, and the good people of the state, to disregard online publications, reports, comments or social media posts alleging open or coded conflict between governor Oborevwori and Chief Ibori or any other part governor.

The EA Communications disclosed that the duo of Oborevwori and Ibori have no misunderstanding previously, and not at the moment, and that malice not foreseeable in the future.

He assured that governor Oborevwori, will always respect, appreciate and work with past governors, elected representatives of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and their counterparts in other political parties to fast track the overall development of Delta State, in line with his MORE Agenda.

“The governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, is not and will never be in conflict with any past governor of the state, and that includes Chief James Onanefe Ibori.

“The true situation of things is that governor Oborevwori, has repeatedly call on all well meaning Deltans irrespective of political affiliation and ethnic nationality, to partner with him to develop the State. This is clearly an open invitation, and Deltans are responding.

“He’s not, and will never directly or indirectly cast aspersions at prominent leaders or any past governor who served the state at various capacities. The governor is an unrepentant respecter of constituted authorities.

“The public, and the good people of Delta State, are strongly advised to ignore or disregard stories, comments, innuendos and publications alleging open or coded conflict between governor Oborevwori and any past governor of the state.

“Deltans are already enjoying the incremental positive socioeconomic benefits of the governor’s good governance strides, flowing from the ongoing implementation of the MORE agenda.

“All well meaning Deltans, local and international investors, as well as industrialists are invited to partner the state, and governor Oborevwori to advance Delta,” Oghenesivbe said

Good News: Federal Government to sell Benin, Abuja, Ibadan, Kaduna, Kano DisCos

Good News: Federal Government to sell Benin, Abuja, Ibadan, Kaduna, Kano DisCos

**Banks, AMCON lack capacity

**As Govt revokes $200m metering contract

The Federal Government yesterday vowed to sell off the five electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) as blackout persists.

Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu said banks and the Asset Management Company (AMCON), which have been managing these DisCos, having taken over because of the failure of the management to repay loans, lack the technical capacity.

The sale to reputable technical power operators is expected to be completed within three months, he added.

According to The Nation, those affected are Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) under the management of the United Bank of Africa (UBA), Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company and Kano Electricity Distribution Company manage by Fidelity Bank, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IEDC) is under the AMCON management.

Investors hold 60 per cent of shares in the DisCos. The Federal Government holds the remaining 40 per cent.

Blackout has persisted in most states with DisCos blaming low allocation from the national grid and gas shortages to generating companies (GenCos) as the causes, among others.

Consumers are lamenting that the epileptic power situation has worsened since January.

Adelabu spoke while hosting the Senate Committee on Power at his office in Abuja.

He said that the energy distribution assets are technical and should be managed by experts.

He informed the committee that tough decisions on the DisCos have become necessary because the entire Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) fails when they refuse to perform.

According to him, the ministry will prevail on the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to revoke underperforming licenses and change the management board of the DisCos if necessary.

Adelabu said: “On distribution, very soon you will see that tough decisions will be taken on the DisCos. They are the last lap of the sector. If they don’t perform, the entire sector is not performing.

“The entire ministry is not performing. We have put pressure on NERC, which is their regulator to make sure they raise the bar on regulation activities.

“If they have to withdraw licenses for non-performance, why not? If they have to change the board of management, why not?

“And all the DisCos that are still under AMCON and banks, within the next three months, they must be sold to technical power operators with good reputations in utility management.

“We can no longer afford AMCON to run our DisCos. We can no longer afford the banks to run our DisCos. This is a technical industry and it must be run by technical experts.”

The minister also noted that it has become necessary to reorganise the DisCos for efficiency.

He stressed that Ibadan DisCo is too large for one company to manage.

Responding to the decision to resell the DisCos, a member of the committee, Senator Isah Jibrin, alleged that some of the operators have stripped the assets of the DisCos they took over in 2013.

He insisted that the operators of any revoked DisCo must be compelled to fix the assets as they were prior to handover.

Adelabu said the Federal Government mobilised a company named Messr Zigglass with $200 million (N32 billion) to supply three million meters, but that the firm is yet to deliver.

“If you held N32 billion for these years, where is the interest?” he asked.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that the contract be revoked.

He said the government will bridge the current eight million metering gap in the next four to five years.

The minister noted that the funding is coming from a seed capital of N100billion and N75billion.

He added that the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) is coming to the aid of the ministry with the fund.

Adelabu blamed issues in the industry on uncompleted projects, urging the committee to approve funds for the completion of over 120 projects across the country.

He also noted that the frequent grid collapse was due to a lack of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).

Committee chairman, Senator Eyinaya Abaribe, said the ministry had been complaining about SCADA procurement in the last 12 years without addressing it.

Senator Danjuma Goje, a member of the committee and a former Minister of Power, told Adelabu that nothing has changed in the sector.

Senator Lalong, commenting on the company that abandoned a project after collecting $200 million since 2021, said people must be punished for their crimes to serve as a deterrent to others.

Senator Osita Ozunaso called for the cancellation of the DisCos licenses, stressing: “DisCos are the problem.”

Senator Neda Imasuen said since the present managers of the power sector have failed over the years, the government should hand them over to new ones or even foreigners.

TCN seeks funding, other support

The same committee visited the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), where the Managing Director, Sule Abdulaziz, urged the members to assist in raising funds for the completion of over 120 projects.

He urged the committee to also help in addressing the issue of right of way.

The TCN boss called on the committee to make a law that would give right of way to the projects.

According to him, vandalisation is a huge challenge hampering projects in the Northwest and Southeast.

He explained that the company is collaborating with a Chinese firm to build a super grid.

He said the N2 billion that TCN gets from the 2024 budget allocation can only pay compensation, pleading for an increased budget.

He added that there is a need for funding for new substations.

‘Gas a constraint’
Independent System Operator (ISO) Executive Director, Nafisat Ali, explained that gas has become a major constraint in the industry.

“Today there is no gas. We need gas,” she said.

She said the DisCos were still rejecting load despite the power shortage in the country.

“The DisCos don’t abide by allocation. That is the challenge,” Ali said.

Adelabu had earlier informed the committee that the Federal Government owed the Generation Companies over N1.3trillion and the gas suppliers $1.3billion.

He said the gas suppliers have refused to provide more because of the debt.

The minister urged the committee to address the debt matter.

Addressing reporters at the end of the visit, Abaribe noted that the committee would interface with the Federal Government to settle the gas debt.

He said: “Every option for us is on the table. If the option is for us to interface with the Federal Government to do their part, because it is a debt, so they have to pay their debt, we will do so.”

He said he would not doubt the minister that the World Bank SCADA project will be completed in two years.

According to him, the committee will focus its oversight on the ministry and the TCN concerning the World Bank project implementation.

He noted that the committee has invited NERC and other stakeholders to answer some questions on April 29 on the tariff review.

The chairman said the committee would revisit the penalties on power assets vandalisation.

Asonja in a congratulatory message to Aiyedatiwa issued by his Media Office, on Monday, said Aiyedatiwa’s victory was “well-deserved.”

Asonja in the statement made available to newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State Capital, said the overwhelming victory of the governor in the 18 local government areas of the state was a testimonial of his acceptability and popularity in the nooks and crannies of the sunshine state.

Ayedatiwa at the end of the 2-day intra-party election conducted by a panel headed by Kogi State Governor, Mr. Usman Ododo, polled 48,460 to defeat all other contestants in the keenly contested election.

The highly referred community leader, who is also State Coordinator, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) in Ondo State, also hailed the teeming members of APC in the state, adding that the overwhelming victory of the governor was a vote of confidence on him by the party faithful.

The prominent Ilaje leader, in the statement, x-rayed the voting patterns in the 18 local government areas of state, pointing out that the outcome of the elections showed that the teeming supporters of APC and indeed the people of the state were happy and satisfied with the development paradigms initiated by the governor, within the short period of his assumption.

Asonja expressed happiness that APC voted for continuity of progressive governance of the Ayedatiwa administration and expressed gratitude to them for rewarding the governor with the mandate to fly the flag of APC in the gubernatorial election coming up in the state on November 16th, 2024.

Asonja, however, pleaded with the governor, to be magnanimous in victory by embracing other contestants, adding that as “the father of the state, he should embrace all of them and bring them on board.”

Similarly, Asonja also appealed to other contestants to put the primary and its outcome behind them and join forces with Ayedatiwa to maintain the winning streaks of APC in the state.

Continuing, Asonja said the fate of APC was superior to the aspiration of any individual member of the party, adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure that APC emerge victorious in the November 16th 2024.

Asonja said, “I seize this medium to congratulate our esteemed and performing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for winning the governorship primary of our great party, APC, in the just-concluded intra-party election. This victory is surely well-deserved.”

“On behalf of our people and particularly my teeming supporters, I express gratitude to the good people of Ondo State, for voting overwhelmingly for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to emerge as the candidate of our great party in the November 16th 2024 general election.”

“I also use this medium to appeal to other contestants to forget the outcome of the election and rally support for the governor to win the general election. No sacrifice is too much to ensure the APC maintains its winning streaks in Ondo State.”

“We cannot afford to push APC into the opposition due to personal aspiration. The interest of APC is far greater and above any personal ambition. Let us team up to win the general election,” Asonja pleaded.

FG plan begging 18 Years As minimum entry Age into tertiary Institutions

FG plan begging 18 Years As minimum entry Age into tertiary Institutions

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has decried the rate of underage entry into universities, saying there is a plan to reviewing and pegging the minimum entry age into tertiary institutions in the country to 18 years.

DailyTimes reports that  Prof. Mamman stated this on Monday while monitoring the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Abuja.

He said: “We noticed that the age of those who have applied to go to the university, some of them are really too young. We are going to look at it because they are too young to understand what a university education is all about.

“That’s the stage when students migrate from a controlled environment where they are in charge of their own affairs. So if they are too young, they won’t be able to manage properly. That accounts for some of the problems we are seeing in the universities.”

“We are going to look at that. 18 is the entry age for university but you will see students, 15, and 16, going to the examination. It is not good for us. Parents should be encouraged not to push their wards or children too much.”
The minister urged, parents to allow their children attain some level of maturity before entering the university so they can better manage their affairs.

While commending the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for a seamless examination process, the minister said the adoption of technology has helped in reducing the cases of examination practices.

“Right from screening to those who are here, the examination process is seamless. The environment is comfortable for students. That’s how it should be, especially the use of technology in our affairs and the educational system. It makes life easy for everybody and seamless.

“The malpractice level is very low, just a 100 out of the 1.2m. It has gone down drastically and I believe that it is the use of technology that has made that happen so this is very good,” he said.
Earlier, the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tanko Sununu, who also visited another centre said he was excited the UTME was also ongoing in Saudi Arabia as a result of the standards set by JAMB management, saying, the examination had transcended to a very high level of objectivity and reliability of results..

Sununu commended the process saying, “One of the major things I see here, which is a major characteristic of online exams, is the speed. The speed in the centre is really excellent; pages are turned when candidates need them without any delay of booting.”

He added, “The standard of the exam is commendable. I am not surprised that JAMB has to go outside Nigeria to go to other countries to conduct exams. They are in Saudi Arabia and right now the exam is also going on in Saudi Arabia. I have not heard people complaining of answers leaked, it shows that with online exams we can do a lot.”

NWF Match Day 14: Edo Queens, Delta Queens set to end rivalry in Delta

NWF Match Day 14: Edo Queens, Delta Queens set to end rivalry in Delta

As the 2023/2024 season of the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL, premiership comes to an end on Wednesday April 24th, 2024 across the country, Red- hot Edo Queens FC will be hosted to a classic titanic battle to bring the NWFL regular season to a close.

However, Edo Queens who are in a stunning campaign battle for the NWFL prestigious Super 6 ticket, will have to play the game of their lives if the dream of having the Clubs’ name registered for the Super 6 is to be actualized.

As neighbours, both States have something in common in the area of sports. Since Delta State was created out of former Bendel State, there have been that rivalry and supremacy fight over dominance in sports and other areas of human development. For Wednesday’s league game between both teams, there are many things to play for.

When they clashed in the first leg of the league at the Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City, former Edo Queens striker Chioma Esther, scored an incredible last minute goal that gave the Godwin Obaseki girls the three maximum points. To say that this game will be tough is an under statement.

Again in Group B of the abridged league table, and the battle for the Super 6, out of eight teams that are in race fighting for the ticket, Rivers Angels have successfully secured the Super 6 slot. They sit top on the table with 27 points, Bayelsa Queens is 2nd with 22 points, Edo Queens sit 3rd With 22 points, FC Robo is 4th, with 19, Delta Queens stand 5th, with 16 points, Remo Stars Ladies is 6th with 15 points, Sunshine Queens of Akure 7th with 13 points, while Ekiti Queens of Ado- Ekiti occupies 8th position with 11 points.

Delta Queens as former league champions are not in contention for the Super 6, they will only be playing for pride and equally use it as a farewell gift to their Asaba teeming fans. They might also want to prove tough with the intention of spoiling the party for Edo Queens. But trust the Benin-City based ladies they are equal to the task and fully ready to give the host team a run for their money.

More so, a win or draw for Edo Queens in this all important cracker on Wednesday will cement the Super 6 dream for the girls from the Heart beat State.

No matter the anticipated antics planned by the host team, Edo Queens players and fans are confident that the squad that will be paraded against the Asaba Queens have all it takes to progress to the Super 6. and possibly win the premiership title.

So the players, fans, officials and management of both teams, it is a game that will go down memory lane. But whatever the out come, at the end, a winner must emerge. But all both teams needed is a level playing ground so as to end the regular league season on a scintillating and glamorous note.

By: Agent Ojo Paul Omamomo

He has proven to be a dependable option from his grassroot days till he started his professional career with FC one rocket

Presently, he is now with Enyimba FC

Significantly, in the U 20 under the guidance of coach Ladan Bosso his qualities improved making him a shining light for defensive Midfield options globally

A detailed look at why DANIEL DAGA is so crucial to any team he plays for cooked with his style

DANIEL DAGA has been a key player

-At this moment, he’s a sleak giant not for his size but for the way he plays.

Similarly, he can be compared with Ngolo kante, Esteban Cambiasso and Claude makalele are prime examples of how this young lad plays over the years, he has placed great importance on the midfield of a winning eleven, and in all honesty, DAGA has been no different in the current form

WHAT DANIEL DAGA BRINGS TO ANY GAME HE PLAYS

HE sits pretty in front of the back four and always giving them a cover with pass penetration

The art of playing in defensive midfield is not about playing dirty games and tackles but about intelligently reading and controlling the game with the pace of movement of the opponents_

Significantly , DANIEL DAGA creates a balance between Midfield and defense and has illustrated this to perfection by providing an imposing physical presence at the centre.

His versatility is what makes him stand out from the other defensive midfielders in the modern era.

DAGA not only wins the ball back with his fierce tackles, but immediately looks for an opportunity to instigate an attack owing to his exceptional passing range.

Tactically ,on the front foot DAGA does not enter the final third very often and becomes the lone central midfielder on the attack, to allow other midfielders to charge forward and make it a 4-1-4-1. He has been one of the best passers for Enyimba /FC one rocket and dictates play from a more central position behind the four midfielders by spreading the play, out to the flanks.

Despite the presence of other Midfielders , he is generally in charge of distribution of the ball

Similarly, he has had his say as a lone central midfielder by reducing the tempo under pressure with a simple pass back to the defence or with a deadly lob directly to find the striker, while facing a crowded final third.

Moreover, DAGA has been crucial in maintaining and initiating attacks.

Productively, DAGA has a Passing accuracy of 84% from U 20 , FC one rocket and Enyimba

Technically,DAGA commits timely fouls to break up play. Fouls play an important role in the modern era as they disrupt the opposition’s tempo or rhythm of play and the versatile defensive midfielder utilizes it to the fullest.

ATTACKING AWARENESS

He is more than capable of surprising the opponents by charging forward into the attacking third and testing the goalkeeper.
Moreover, his exquisite dribbling ability is also the underlying secret behind his ability to hold the ball under immense pressure.

However, his major duty is to screen the back four and wait patiently for the right moment to press the onrushing attacker or bring to an end any threatening passage of play in the final third. Now, this is a role that demands utmost focus and any lapse of a mere fraction of a second could end up being costly.

DANIEL DAGA has shown time and again, that he can meet the demands of the role by positioning himself to perfection.

EXCEPTIONAL MOBILITY

In DANIEL DAGA we are talking about a player who is involved in every aspect of a teams game , right from winning the ball to creating a scoring opportunity

Basically, he is a player who is influential in every part of the pitch, right from the defensive third to the penalty box going forward. Thereby intercepting the ball frequently.

Thus, DAGA’s ability to read the game is an added advantage and a tactical prerequisite for a quality defensive midfielder in football today.

Over time , DAGA has become an indispensable option and the young teenager is churning out to be a world class player in the future

Orji Uzor Kalu: From Humble Beginnings To A Global Galaxy; Putting The Records Straight

Orji Uzor Kalu: From Humble Beginnings To A Global Galaxy; Putting The Records Straight

By: Emmanuel Odoemelam, Abuja

Right from his days at Government College Umuahia (GCU) known as the Eton of the East, Kalu has been a leader who has demonstrated courage, resilience, punctuality, and strong character in dealing with people.

Kalu started his Secondary School education at Eziama High School, Aba, and switched to the renowned Government College Umuahia where he was referred to as “Labour Ke” an industrious student who is more of a workaholic, who gets his assignments and academics done right on time.

Despite being a “White Shirt” (a new student who didn’t start GCU from JSS1), the then Principal, O. O. Otisi, a grade ‘A’ principal in Eastern Nigeria, found Kalu worthy to be made the Labour Captain to pilot, coordinate the affairs of students during and after manual labor, because the exalted office demanded someone who is focused, disciplined, keeps to time and dares to persuade both his mates and junior students to be proactive and hardworking.

This responsibility bestowed on Kalu wasn’t a mere mediocre portfolio. To be a Labour Captain or School Captain in GCU then, you must be a very brilliant student who is academically sound, and hard-working to combine both academics and other school activities and still come out in flying colors.

These leadership positions were fertile grounds for preparing Kalu for what he was going to become later in life, both in business and politics.

Amongst his schoolmates and contemporaries, none has come out to give any bad report about Kalu, they are all giving heartwarming testimonies about their one-time Labour Captain, “Labour Ke”, Kalu.

Fast forward to when he became Governor of Abia State on 29th May 1999, Kalu showed the world the qualities he is made of by taking Abia State to an enviable, and relatively next level not minding where the Military Government left it. Kalu as governor, inculcated the spirit of farming and industrialized agriculture 🚜 in students, teachers, civil servants, and the private sector. I remember when all pupils, students, teachers, and civil servants in Abia State were given palm seedlings free of charge.

Today, those palm seedlings have grown into palm plantation sites which makes billions for both individuals and collectively as a state. You will agree with me that this singular initiative of sharing palm seedlings took so many people from the street and has succeeded in making some wealthy people thereby enhancing and enlarging human capacity development.

As governor, Kalu made Free Education compulsory from Primary to University level which was the first of its kind after Sir Michael Okpara, Premier of the old Eastern Region. Yellow coaster buses (Ebeano) took pupils and students to school by 7 am and took them back by 2 pm daily from Monday to Friday across all the nooks and crannies of Abia State. Students were given Mathematical sets and writing materials to aid their learning. Yours truly was a beneficiary of the free ride and education scheme of former governor Kalu. This singular act of benevolence helped many parents to use the money meant for school fees to pay for other house exigencies.

These were the major burden Kalu lifted for parents of indigenes and non-indigenes in Abia. Kalu was not discriminatory. When other governors were retrenching workers who weren’t from their states which affected so many teachers, they all ran back to Abia State and were absorbed by the Abia State Government led by Dr. Kalu.

Abia State University, ABSU, was the top grade when Kalu was governor. Their graduates were top in the Nigerian Law School and Nigerian Medical School. Kalu made sure he pulled renowned Professors from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, to come over to ABSU to help them come up to standard and the results were seen in Law, Medicine, and Engineering graduates ABSU produced in the labor market. Throughout Kalu’s tenure as governor of Abia State, ABSU never lost NUC accreditation.

*How was Kalu able to achieve all these incredible legacies in ABSU?*

*How was he able to maintain this status quo without owing lecturers’ salaries?*

The answer isn’t far fetched. The reason was that he was financially prudent and disciplined. He was circumspect with his security votes, which some of his governor colleagues were lavish with, however, he chose to use his security votes to offset some of the education burden which was very smart and thoughtful of him.

As governor of Abia State, Kalu built from foundation the teaching hospital in Aba. When he left as Governor, his successors couldn’t maintain the building and management of the teaching hospital.

Kalu is the brain behind Judges’ quarters in Abia State. He built it, furnished and paid lawyers as at when due. He never owed them any salary for one day.

As governor, Kalu built quality roads which my community Nneato, Umunneochi LGA benefited from. Kalu constructed Leru road from the Leru Junction down to Umuchukwu in Anambra with drainage systems. The good thing is that these roads are still solid till today. Kalu constructed roads in the 3 Senatorial districts. No village in Abia State will deny witnessing the impact of Kalu’s government from 1999-2007.

In terms of security, Abia state was calm, peaceful, and tranquil. Foreigners and Europeans were all rushing to Abia State then to do business because they knew the state government led by Kalu was resolute, determined, and unequivocally poised to safeguard the lives and properties of the people living and doing business in Abia State and her environs. Kalu not only depended on the Police and Army to protect the people, but he also employed the services of non-state actors like the vigilantes who were properly documented and monitored to avoid clash of interests or working outside their job description which was to gather local intelligence to forestall crime from happening.

Kalu also had a robust and cordial relationship with the traditional institutions and rulers who helped in taming their subjects and restive youths who were properly engaged in doing meaningful agricultural, sporting, and creative activities that put money in their pockets.

*How about now Kalu is a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria? Is he still doing those selfless great jobs for his people?*

The answer is capital YES. Kalu is doing more, because it’s in his nature to help and see people rise and fulfill their God-given potentials.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Privatization, Kalu, has done for Abia North Senatorial District what no Senator has done for them, since the inception of the state. He has constructed over 160 standard roads (2-3km each) with drainages, and renovated over 70 primary/secondary schools, and 50 primary health centers in less than 5 years of serving as a ranking lawmaker at the Hallowed Red Chamber.

In a recent article published by Dailytrust newspaper, it is on record that out of 13 former governors who are current serving senators, Sen. Kalu is the only ex-governor who has sponsored 5 bills since the inception of 10th Senate. Where does this point to? It clearly shows Kalu has a clear-cut legislative agenda that is well spelt out and he knows exactly how to get it done to bring dividends of democracy down to primarily the good people of Abia North Senatorial District and citizens of Nigeria in general.

He has done Zonal Intervention Projects more than any Senator in Abia State. Sharing of agricultural equipment, Grinding machines, Casava processing machines, Generators, Sewing machines, Wheelbarrows, Shovels for farming, School materials, Bags, Exercise Books, Pencils, Pens, modern writing Desks, and writing Boards to different schools across Abia North to aid pupils and students study in a good learning environment.

It has also been a tradition for over 38 years, since 1986 that the former Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Kalu, shares bags of Rice, Beans, Garri, and with a good sum of cash to 103 wards in Abia North, Abia State and beyond, every Yuletide and New Year celebration.

The 2023 season celebration wasn’t an exception, because the people’s Senator, Dr. Kalu in his wisdom and kindness shared over 30,000 bags of rice, 10,000 bags of beans, and 10,000 bags of garri to help cushion the effect of the realities of economic challenges. One thing that struck me and drew my attention was how humble Kalu was standing under the scorching sun, distributing these palliatives and giving cash to 103 wards of the OUK movement, APC, and Reality Organization members who came to Camp Neya, by himself. He saw to it, that the palliatives were judiciously shared on merit and not by ‘eye service’, which further portrayed him as a leader with good conscience.

He also extended his benevolence to share 4 Hilux Vans to the Nigerian Police and Igbere Vigilante to help curb crime and gather local intelligence primarily in Abia North and Abia State.

*Why am I writing this article?*

This is to specifically address young *Gen-Z* generation who might be in their 18s, 19s, and 20s, who weren’t born or were still very tender when Kalu was a governor. This is to give them a better understanding of who Senator Kalu is. Our schools no longer teach History, which is where students get information they’re privy about.

However, this article will further throw more light on some dark-shaded opinions or reservations you have against the best governor Abia State has ever had to date. I believe you are reading the article line by line and getting the true reflection of who Kalu truly is. He is a man of his word. His yes is his yes, and his no is his no. If he is with you, he is with you. If he’s not with you, you will clearly know. He is outspoken and courageous. If he tells you anything, you can take it to the bank and cash it and it won’t bounce. That’s the caliber of man he is. He is very punctual and keeps to time. Of course, Kalu is a Harvard-trained business mogul who has been taught that time is vital for effective delivery on projects. If he gives you time for an appointment, better don’t take it with laxity.

Abia’s leadership problem started when successive Governors Kalu handed over power in trust deviated from the master blueprint he gave his successors. Had they remained or sustained Kalu’s legacies, Abia would have gone farther than where it is currently.

Successive Governors of Abia will find it hard to step into the shoes of Sen. Kalu in all ramifications of governance, because Kalu set a high standard as governor of Abia State. It will be a herculean task for successive Governors to match up to the standards Kalu set from 1999-2007, even when Abia had limited resources, and a meager budget, when compared to the present dispensation.

Senator Kalu has been an exceptional leader from time immemorial. It didn’t start today. He started from humble beginnings, began business at a young age of 19, as a University of Maiduguri student. He started selling palm oil from East to the North and brought Fish from North to East to sell Ventured into furniture and other merchandise as the business grew bigger. He became a successful business man at the age of 25. Ever since then, he has been God’s working tool in the affairs of men (humanity).

Those who erroneously see Kalu as venal and send political fifth columnists to write mendacious reports about him, which are unfounded. This emanates from those who can’t separate jealousy from saying the truth. Their major worry is, how can Kalu be wealthy and have political power simultaneously

Kalu remains a political and business institution in Abia State, Southeast, Nigeria, Africa, and the world in general.

Those who don’t know him closely are those who waste their time writing unverified stories about the permanent good man, Kalu, who understands the responsibility and sacrifice of leadership.

Kalu is humble and down to earth, a detribalized Nigerian who was born in the East, grew up in the North and did business in the West. Kalu understands the economic and political dynamics of Nigeria due to its unique diversity.

Happy birthday to the great Iroko of Africa and an encyclopedia and reservoir of modern politics. I pray God grants you long life in good health and sound mind as you continue to inspire hundreds of millions of people who look up to you for mentorship and leadership in all spheres of life endeavor.

U:20 National Softball Camp Opens in Yenagoa

The national U:20 softball camp has opened in Yenagoa in Bayelsa State capital with about one hundred and fifty players, twenty national team coaches, and a foreign coach in the camp.

Sir Wodi explained that the softball camping exercise has the best of coaches from across the world as well as the top officials of the softball federation in Yenagoa. stating that the program has further affirmed Bayelsa government policy of giving all sports equal chances.

He asserted that the idea to bring the camping program to Bayelsa was as a result of the State’s triumph in softball in the last National Sports Festival held in Asaba, Delta State and to introduce young girls to softball.

The Director said the camping program would move to another state within the interval of six months with the aim of discovering more talents, as these set of players would be matured before the 2028 Olympics games.
