Good governance: Oborewvori is Reducing cost of Governance in Delta- Latimore explains

High cost of Governance as a thing has been at the top burner for being one of the major actors crumbling our local economy and hindering growth in the country.

Gov Sheriff Oborevwori of delta state has put himself forward to ensure that he sees to the reduction of running a thriving government by minimizing wasteful spending in the state, he even goes as far as slashing over priced contracts before approval.

According to the Executive Assistant To Delta state Governor, on Orientation and Communication, Bar. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe the governor has not borrowed a kobo to fund any project but has rather managed what the state has meticulously and also increased IGR by capturing the informal sector.

He advised that it’s rather early to judge the government, rather let’s give the government some time and we will be positively amazed at how much the government can do for us.

The EA made these statements in Asaba during a media interaction with members and executives of Indigenous Correspondents Chapel ICC of the Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ Delta State Council at its “ICC MIRROR” platform designed for expository dialalogue.

Barr Latimore Stated that “we will begin to see the manifestation of the MORE Agenda very soon and by the end of the year people will see positive changes in the state.”

While commending the press for standing by him thick and thin, he urged Journalists to be factual and not work with speculations.

He advised that Journalists should bring forth constructive criticism and precision journalism to the people and not confuse the populace even more.

Earlier speaking, the Chairman ICC, Comrade Kenneth Orusi commended the EA for visiting the ICC secretariat to be a guest at its ICC MIRROR Platform.

Orusi also assured the govt of the support of its members as always but won’t fail to call their attention in lagging areas.

My life is under threat – Fresh Angle International Editor, Ebule alerts

My life is under threat – Fresh Angle International Editor, Ebule alerts

Editor-In-Chief of Fresh Angle International, Ebule Anthony Metsese, has raised alarm over alleged recurring threats to his life as a result of controversial developments in Warri Kingdom.

Ebule, stated that the most recent of such threats, was connected to the incident that happened at Okere Community in Warri on Saturday March 2.

He explained: “As an indigene of Okere Community and a seasoned Mass Communicator, who understands and practice the concept of Social Responsibility Theory of the Media, I decided not to publish the event that happened in my beloved Okere Community on that fateful day. Shockingly, despite our (Me and other members of Fresh Angle International Editorial Team) decision to play down on what transpired at Okere, there have been series of warnings, directly or indirectly targeted at me (Ebule Anthony Metsese) insisting that if I publish any report regarding the incident, I will be severely dealt with.

“The threats, are not unconnected with the patronage Fresh Angle International gets from Chief Ayirimi Emami. Interestingly some persons in the quarters where the threats are coming from, occasionally patronize Fresh Angle International through proxies, whilst making remarks that impugn on the professional integrity of Fresh Angle International Newspaper in their private and social gatherings. A few others from the threat axis, have never bothered to patronize Fresh Angle International Newspaper, whenever they have need to do any form of publicity, rather they enjoy blackmail against Fresh Angle International and are on the trajectory of intimidating members of our Editorial Team, particular me, the Editor-In-Chief. I consider this a deliberate strategy to censor reports from this fast-growing Newspaper, enjoying increasing global appeal.

“I must add, Fresh Angle International Newspaper, was not established to serve the interest of any individual or ethnic nationality, but open to patronage from persons, institutions and corporate bodies across the world. Intimidation is not the right tool to win people’s support, rather constructive engagement is the civilized approach, particularly in a society constitutional democracy is being practiced. At this point in time, I will not mention the names of the prominent persons in Itsekiri Nation that are after my life, for committing no crime, but they should know that the security agencies and the media beyond the shores of Nigeria, will soon have their names documented, for posterity to judge.”

All African Games: Local talents are the recipe for Nigeria, Sports Minister’s Aide, Daniel declares

By: Aboluwade God’s Treasure (AGT)

It was another exciting super interview edition on the leading WhatsApp groups in Nigeria,*Sports World* as media Aide to the Minister of Sports (Senator Owan Enoh), Mr Kola Daniel occupied the hot seat to give his take on the level of preparedness of Nigerian athletes ahead of the 13th African Games.

Also, the globetrotter and well recognized award winning journalist was quizzed on the inclusion of Local based players from the NPFL into the National team(Super Eagles) for major competitions and he gave his thoughts.

He advocated vehemently for the local based players to be included in Nigeria’s team selections for the nation’s success, while sighting past examples and here were his words:

“Some of the players who have actually done this country proud and done so well for this country are products of the local league. Sunday Mba,who scored in the final, Azubuike Ogechukwu,Chigozie Agbin, Gabriel and co were products of the league.

“I have never undermined the power of the local league and I have never said that a player cannot be given the chance as local talents”.

He also added “There are many players who can play in the Super Eagles(our senior team) that are based in the local leagues, all they need it time and the opportunity,as well as the sense of belonging”

The well read media aide and journalist continued, “We have done it before,if you go back to the 1980 Nations cup we won, bulk of these players were on the home soil, Khadri Ikhana, Segun Odegbami, Best Ogedegbe, Okala, Christian Chukwudi…they were home based players and we won the nation’s cup.

“Look at Algiers ’90,we only lost in the finals and most of them were home based players.

“Yes, I believe in local based players and I feel that many of them can actually do it, if given the chance”. He concluded.

Ijeh Shoots Abia Warriors To Victory In Kano

Ijeh Shoots Abia Warriors To Victory In Kano

Star midfielder, Daniel Ijeh was the hero for Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia as his wonder strike at the Sani Abacha Stadium condemned title chasing Kano Pillars to their first NPFL home defeat of the ongoing season.

It was Abia Warriors first away victory of the season.

Coach Bethel Oji made four changes to the starting eleven against Kwara United FC in Aba last Thursday with Jerry Ogu, Emmanuel Onu, Sunday Megwo and Obi Samson surrendering their positions to Aliyu Mohammed Goyi, Ifeanyi Anaemena, Chinemerem Okike and Fabian Omaka.

The game lived up to expectation as it was entertaining, intriguing, captivating, and breathtaking. The first half saw both sides cancelling out each other with chances far and between.

In the second period, buoyed by the mammoth crowd, Kano Pillars came all out in search of goals, but they met a well drilled Abia Warriors defence. The introduction of Adamu Ibrahim in the second half saw the home side increase the tempo, but whatever they threw at the visitors the defence line stood stoutly, and the Warriors relied on counter attack with Daniel Ijeh as the orchestrator.

That game plan would have paid off for Abia Warriors in the 58th minute when Godwin Udoh met Daniel Ijeh’s telegraphic pass inside Kano Pillars’ box totally unmarked, but his hasty shot went sky high, when all he needed to do was to control the ball and calmly pick his spot.

As the game progressed Abia Warriors gaffer, Coach Bethel Oji replaced Fabian Omaka and Godwin Udoh with Onu Emmanuel and Antoine Desouza, with the latter becoming an instant nuisance for the Pillars’ defence. More importantly for the visitors, Daniel Ijeh had more freedom to defend and initiate Abia Warriors’ counter-attacks.

In the 78th minute, the unexpected happened to the home side.

Daniel Ijeh, who won Man-of-the -Match gong, sent a diagonal pass to Meme Okike, and as the winger gave chase, Pillars’ defender who was a yard ahead of him tipped the ball to the goalkeeper but unfortunately for them, the ball went out of play for a corner kick to Abia Warriors.

The resultant corner was headed out and Daniel Ijeh who was well positioned from 23 yards took a one-time shot that sailed into the roof of the net. It was a beauty of a goal that silenced the mammoth crowd.

Stunned by that goal, Kano Pillars came all out in search of the equalizer, and their experienced captain, Rabiu Ali even hit the bar but Abia Warriors held on to secure their second consecutive victory after that heartwarming 1-0 win over Kwara United at the Enyimba International Stadium last week.

Up next for Abia Warriors is a home tie against league leaders, Lobi Stars of Makurdi.

Dr. Akpoveta said with just 7,000 naira, anyone could purchase health insurance for indigent persons around them to access quality healthcare in any hospital of their choice throughout the year.
Describing Hon. Esenwa as a philanthropist per excellence, the DG said the gesture of the honorable member towards his constituents was an example of true leadership and compassion, even as he noted that Hon. Esenwa had set a record as the first person to purchase health insurance for 200 persons under the scheme in the state

Dr. Akpoveta said the Commission has made remarkable progress in fulfilling its mandate, especially with the implementation of various programmes, which has helped increase healthcare coverage and health outcomes of the people.

He mentioned the programmes to include the Equity Health plan, formal health plan, and the informal Health plan, as well as the Access to Finance Initiative for the hard to reach areas of the state, Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Program, TISHIP, for students and the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative.

The DG said over 1,890,000 persons in Delta state have so far registered in the scheme, indicating the confidence of Deltans in the commission and its programmes, even as he reiterated the Commission’s commitment to expanding the reach and impact across the state.

He thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his continued political will and financial support to the commission, and urged stakeholders to continue to support initiatives aimed at expanding healthcare access for all residents of the state.

The Chairman of the Commission, Dr Austin Obidi in his earlier remarks, commended Hon. Esenwa for addressing the health needs of his constituents and urged other well meaning Deltans, including corporate organizations to take cue and lend a helping hand to the indigent around them, bearing in mind that health is wealth.

While saying that the insurance scheme and the upgrading of health facilities across the state, was a testament of the state government’s commitment to providing more health benefits for Deltans, Dr. Obidi urged the people to spread the good news to everyone around them.

The member representing Oshimili North in the state House of Assembly, and sponsor of the programme, Hon. Frank Esenwa, said upon hearing of the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative, he decided to utilize the opportunity to reduce the health stress of his constituents, especially at a time where drugs were becoming more expensive, and the global economy was dwindling.

Hon. Esenwa recognized the role of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in bringing health insurance into the state, describing it as laudable, while also calling on others to embrace the programme.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke including a 67 year old physically challenged retiree who has been battling health challenges, thanked Hon. Esenwa for the gesture saying that they had never it so good.

Highpoint of the event was the conferment of Health Insurance Ambassador on Hon. Esenwa by the Commission.
