Urhobo Youth Group Hails Senator Dafinone’s Database Initiatives, Expresses Confidence In His Representation

Leadership and members of the Federated Movement Of Urhobo Youth Leaders FMUYL, led by Prince Sony Jifas Ogbon JP, have expressed confidence over the representation of the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Ede Dafinone.

Prince Sony Jifas Ogbon, JP, the Coordinator of the group stated this while fielding questions from journalists recently, saying that the Federated Movement of Urhobo Youth Leaders are fully convinced, judging from the pedigrees of the Senator representing Delta Central in the 10th Senate, his agendas, initiatives and policies put in place so far.

The youth leader and philanthropist maintained that, Senator Dafinone’s programs so far, even in the midst of his detractors in the opposition party, that took him to elections tribunal and appeal court, he still had the best people oriented initiatives.

He said recently, Delta Central constituents received with overwhelming joy Senator Ede Dafinone Database Model Initiative which came in five different categories.

The group said, the initiative will afford every Delta Central indigenes the opportunity to benefit from jobs and other empowerment programmes which will better the lives of the people. They said with the exposures of Senator Dafinone and his intellectual prowess, they are very much optimistic that Delta Central will like the 8th and 9th senate, benefit immensely from his programs.

While describing him as a well grounded intellectual and a chartered accountant, Prince Sony Jifas Ogbon noted that he believed that he will use his connections in the business word to attract great things to the senatorial district.

“He is a responsive lawmaker whose interest is on his people, but not on his pocket. Look at his petition concerning the federal commissioner position which he drew the attention of other senators to in the house as well as a bill he sponsor to stop and investigate the nefarious crude oil theft in the region, it is a testament that he is indeed a man who knew why he was voted, the group affirmed”.

The Federated Movement of Urhobo Youth Leaders however called on Senator Dafinone to be careful with selfish politicians who may come around him with inordinate intentions of cornering everything to themselves alone.

Just In: Plateau Guber: Appeal Court Sacks PDP’s Mutfwang, declares Goshwe of APC winner

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Sunday, removed Governor Mutfwang Manasseh of the Peoples Democratic Party as the Governor of Plateau state.

Consequently, the 3-man panel of the appellate court has declared Nentawe Goshwe of the All Progressives Congress as the validly elected governor of Plateau state.

Also, the court has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognize Nentawe Goshwe as the authentic governor of Plateau state, having won the March 18, governorship election in the State.

Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu, leading the panel, held in her lead judgment that in accordance with section 177 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, Manasseh was not a validly sponsored candidate of the PDP during the election.

The panel held that the PDP breached the court’s order that a valid Congress be conducted in the 17 Local Government Areas of the State, by conducting Congress only in 5 LGAs of the State, and as such is a nullity.

The court while dismissing the decision of the Plateau State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal held that the issue of qualification is both a pre-election and a post-election matter contrary to the findings of the tribunal which held that the appellant lacked the locus to contest the validity of the respondent.

The court also noted that under section 134 of the Electoral Act, “it is the sole right of a political party to sponsor its candidate having met the necessary requirements to do so.

While evoking section 136 of the Electoral Act, the appellate court ordered INEC to retrieve the Certificate of Return issued to Governor Manasseh and issue a fresh Certificate of Return to Goshwe.

Tribunal sacking of Governor Sule: Appeal Court Reserves Judgement In Nasarawa Gov’ship Appeal

The Abuja division of the Court of Appeal has reserved judgment in the appeal brought before it by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State seeking to upturn the decision of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which sacked him from office.

A three-member panel of justices headed by Justice U. Onyemenam told parties involved that the date for judgment will be communicated.

When hearing commenced, Wole Olanipekun, counsel for Sule who filed five processes to challenge the appeal, urged the Court to dismiss the judgment of the Tribunal and allow the appeal of his client.

Olanipekun noted that the Tribunal refused to take the submissions of their witnesses during hearing and that data from the BVAS tendered to the Tribunal were merely dumped and not considered as evidence.

After adopting his processes, Kanu Agabi, counsel for David Ombugadu and the PDP, in his reply, urged the Court to dismiss the appeal against the Tribunal judgment stating that their evidence are merely documentary.

On the issue of BVAS, the senior lawyer argued that it was sufficiently demonstrated in the Tribunal as demanded by law, with the printout from the machine shown, against the argument that they were merely dumped without being analyzed.

The Tribunal had, in a split decision of two-to-one by a three-man panel declared the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), David Ombugadu as the winner of the March 18, 2023 Nasarawa State governorship election.

A dissenting ruling by a member of the panel however upheld the election of Governor Sule.

Nigeria Labour Congress, TUC deny receiving court order to halt strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC have both denied receiving a court order restraining them from embarking on the ongoing indefinite nationwide strike.

The President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo, disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview with Channels Television.

According to him, NLC and TUC did not receive any notice of a court order restraining it from embarking on strike.

“We don’t have any court order; NLC and TUC have none. There is no single communication to that effect”, he said.

His reaction comes after a court judgement surfaced last week restraining the unions from embarking on strike.

But, on Tuesday, the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress commenced a nationwide indefinite strike over an assault on Joe Ajaero, NLC National President, in Imo State.

DAILY POST and this medium reports that affiliate unions, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), National Union of Electricity Employees, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) and others, have thrown their weight behind NLC, TUC by joining the strike action.
