You don’t have the right to marry two wives – Dr. Bright

You don’t have the right to marry two wives – Dr. Bright

By: Celestine Ukah

A renowned Gospel Minister and Pastor in charge of Shalom Baptist Church, Pipeline Road, Ekpan, Delta State of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Pst. Opate Bright, PhD, has declared that men do not have the right to marry two wives.

Pst. Dr. Bright made the declaration known recently during a Sunday sermon, where he revealed that man never had the intention to marry according to Genesis 2:18-19, 21-22, 23-24, 25.

The man of God, who was preaching on the topic “The Mega Marriage,” explained that marriage was not ordained by a prophet, rather by God.

Dr. Bright stressed that the Mega Marriage is both a system and structure orchestrated by God for the fulfillment of one’s destiny. He cautioned men and women to stop looking for the perfect one to marry as there’s none.

Dr. Bright admonished single ladies not to marry a man who doesn’t have a job, and for women, the best quality you can have is respect for man, Gen. 2:23. He posited further that Mega Marriage is a system of accountability, responsibility, adjustment, godliness, and enjoyment.

El-Kanemi Warriors FC Triumph Over Kano Pillars FC In A Thrilling 2–1 Win

El-Kanemi Warriors FC secured a well-deserved 2–1 victory over Kano Pillars FC in a pulsating NPFL Matchday 7 encounter at the El-Kanemi Warriors Stadium, Maiduguri.

The much-anticipated fixture kicked off at 4:00 PM with both sides fielding their star players Captain Zayyad Musa leading the Warriors and Super Eagles captain Ahmad Musa spearheading the Sai Masu Gida.

The Warriors started the game brightly, dominating the first 15 minutes and creating several scoring chances. The best opportunity came in the 9th minute when Abbas Usman linked up beautifully with Al’amin Umar, who set up Mas’ud Danjuma for a close-range strike, but Kano Pillars goalkeeper Abuci produced an outstanding save to deny him.

Coach Kabiru Suleiman Dogo made a tactical change in the 38th minute, introducing Daddy Abdulrahman for Mas’ud Danjuma to strengthen the attack. Despite sustained pressure, the first half ended goalless.

The second half began with Kano Pillars pushing forward with two dangerous counter-attacks. However, the “Babagana Umara Zulum Boys” finally broke the deadlock in the 60th minute when Bilal Yakubu and Al’amin Umar combined with some fine touches to set up Daddy Abdulrahman, who scored a spectacular goal from a tight angle sending the stadium into jubilation.

Kano Pillars equalized in the 79th minute with a well-taken goal that briefly silenced the home fans. But just two minutes later, Daddy Abdulrahman the Kano born Midfielder struck again, scoring his second goal of the day to restore El-Kanemi’s lead.

The Warriors displayed their trademark tiki-taka style of play, maintaining composure and control until the referee signaled full-time.

if Oliver Ofejiro defamed you, go to Court, Right activist, Umukoro tells Gov. Oborevwori, Others

if Oliver Ofejiro defamed you, go to Court, Right activist, Umukoro tells Gov. Oborevwori, Others

A Human Right activist Comrade (Dr.) Efemena Umukoro says Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the member Representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Sen. Ede Dafinone, Stella Okotete and the member representing the people of Delta South Senatorial District,Sen. Joel-Thomas Onowakpo should seek redress in Court if they feel aggrieved that human right activist and critic, Oliver Ofejiro has defamed their characters.

Umukoro made the call Thursday October 2, during a peaceful protest at the Delta State Government House, Asaba.

He warned that if the governor and the others fail or refuses to his call, “We are going to increase the gear of the protest.”

Umukoro who was flanked by a few others said the continuous detention of Ofejiro by the Police is an “abuse of power”.

“We are in a democratic society where we have freedom of liberty, freedom of expression.”

According to him,”There’s a way you’ll charging a suspect to court, you have 24-48 hours. And even the new directive by Inspector-General of Police brought now is investigate the person before arresting and then arraign.

“For instance, Mr. President, there’s no insult that they have not insulted Mr. President; all sort of names but Mr. President has never arrested a critic because he understands the dynamics and the techniques of governance. He knows that critics are there to check and balance the system.

“Without critics, government will be so relaxed but with criticisms, it put government on their toes. While we are clamouring for constructive criticism, the State Governor,Sheriff Oborevwori,Sen. Ede Dafinone, Sen. Joel Onowakpo if these persons believe that Ejiro Oliver has crossed the red line, the best approach is not to keep him in cell, but give him the privilege to have his say in court where he can dispense himself for the whole allegation he has read against them. We are not in Banana’s republic and we are not going to allow our injustice to spite any young Nigerians, not just in Delta State.”

Umukoro explained that the peaceful protest at the Government House was to register their displeasure and to tell them,” enough is enough”.

“I want to use this opportunity to apologize to our Comrade, a lot of them reached out to me saying, “why did you not involve us, why did you not involve us?”. I did not involve you people because I don’t want you to look as if our aim will now be changed. Our aim is a peaceful protest and by the time you take so much crowd to government’s house, it’s as if it’s an attack on the government’s house. That was the main reason why we did not involve comrades in asaba.

“We did it as lawful citizens of Delta State. So my apologies to the Comrade community in Asaba who duly reached out to me. I’m sorry we had to do it this way because if we are asking the government to respect rule of law, we also should also respect the rule of law. So that is the main reason why we did not involve the Comrade community in Asaba or any persons.”

Umukoro called on Delta State to allow Oliver Ofejiro have his way to the Court of law.

Umukoro said when the protest will be increased, it will not be Government’s House or house of Assembly. We are going to increase the gear. And when its time to increase the gear, we are going to allow the full press to know.”

He said some agents of government have reached out to him over the matter

“Now, we are sitting back waiting for those government agencies who have reached out to us to do the needful but if we wait till next week and nothing is still being done, we might be forced to increase the gear.”

Umukoro said he will not institute any case of fundamental rights breach on behalf of Oliver Ofejiro against the Delta State Police Command led by CP Olufemi Abaniwonda as an entity rather, he will do against the Investigative Police Officer, IPO in charge of the case.

He said,’ The IPO who has suddenly become a co-petitioner instead of being an umpire.

“That the IPO will now go on Fejiro’s Facebook and now screenshoting things that are not in the petition, that he should come and answer now made the IPO a party to this case. You cannot be a party of a case that you are investigating.

‘The second reason why I would not want to petition the entire Delta State Police. It is clear that the CP did not give a directive that fejiro should be kept incommunicado because when I wanted to see Fejiro and they refused,I called him and when I complained to him, he told me that it’s the fundamental human rights of fejiro to see his family member and his legal council.

“He said so for that, he placed a call ahead of me and asked him to allow me see him, to have access to him.

“So for that reason I’m not going to tie this petition to the entire Delta State Police but rather to an individual who I believed because of personal gain, he has decided to add himself as a fellow petitioner.”

Umukoro also warned the Delta State Police Command to thread with caution on the matter pointing out that a protest letter has been submitted to the international community through International Human Rights Commission, IHRC and to the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC in Abuja.

“So, they should be careful with the way they go about this issue. They should go to court and let the young man have his time in court and not to continue to use their power to support oppression and intimidation in a democratic society.

LOUD SILENCE: STRATEGY OF OBARISI

LOUD SILENCE: STRATEGY OF OBARISI

By: Itse-Elijah Wilkie

Silence is not emptiness; it is architecture. It builds where words collapse. It is a sculptor that chisels meaning out of voids and a lens that peers into the chambers of the heart, dragging the hidden noise of adversaries into the open. To the shallow, it looks like weakness; to the discerning, it is a fortress. Silence burns without flame. It sets fire on the mountains of envy and unsettles the jealousy with its still heat.

The philosophers understood this long before us. Wittgenstein declared that when words stumble, silence ascends the throne. Pascal lamented that humanity’s deepest unrest is its inability to sit quietly in a room alone. Thoreau, in the woods, discovered that solitude was a more faithful companion than crowded company. From the East came a whisper through Taoist thought: silence is the reservoir of strength, a force that outlives noise. These are not mere reflections but embers of truth and fragments of fire that point to a reality speech cannot contain.

Scripture too sings this hidden music. David held his tongue before the wicked and transformed silence into a shield. Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is “a time to keep silence, and a time to speak.” This is no coward’s retreat but strategic warfare, for silence can be a weapon in the hands of God. Sometimes the Almighty disarms the enemy not by thundering back but by silencing lying lips, rendering them powerless before the stillness of His people. Silence ties the adversary’s hands in unseen chains.

Politics, that noisy theater of ambition, has also bowed to silence. Richard Nixon captured the imagination of America’s “Silent Majority,” and with that phrase, he turned voicelessness into thunder at the ballot box. Angela Merkel, in her long chancellorship, cultivated a style her critics mocked as merkeln; deliberate delay, calculated quiet. Yet it was this very stillness that steadied Europe through storms, proving that sometimes the weight of what is unsaid carries more power than speeches.

In Delta State State Nigeria, silence has become a strategy of its own. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy Senate President of the 9th Republic, has often allowed restraint to do his talking. In moments when adversaries braced for his words, he offered none. His quiet has become a riddle, unsettling rivals and forcing them to second-guess his moves. Observers have since noted how his pauses, his deliberate timing, have altered the rhythm of political contest in Delta State. Even his opponents have betrayed unease, as silence itself is a sword raised against them. Politics thrives on noise and instant reaction, but when one man refuses to be hurried, he becomes the measure of the field.

Thus silence is not a retreat but concentration. It is thundered with the mouth shut, causing the mountain to tremble. In the personal life, scripture, politics, silence stands as judge and sentinel; weighing words before they are spoken, weighing adversaries before they are answered.

To master silence is to master a language few dare to learn. It is not for the restless or the cowardly, but for the disciplined who understand that sometimes the loudest voice is the one that chooses not to speak.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has mastered this science. The propaganda of the MORE agenda and antagonists of the EDGE agenda need a course on this strategy. Application fee is free but the cost of tuition is louder than silence

Senator Gold says so.

Delta government recognises first Obi of Ukwu Oba, Presents Staff Of Office To HRM, Obi Cletus Nkeakam Ochei I

Delta government recognises first Obi of Ukwu Oba, Presents Staff Of Office To HRM, Obi Cletus Nkeakam Ochei I

A new era of peace and development officially began in Ukwu-Oba Kingdom on Thursday as HRM, Obi Cletus Nkeakam Ochei I, was formally presented with Staff of Office by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The colorful and historic event was hailed as a day of celebration, reaffirming the crucial role of traditional institutions.

During the presentation ceremony, the Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, emphasized the high value the administration places on traditional rulers as “custodians of our culture, agents of unity and partners in grassroots development.”

The Governor congratulated the new monarch on his ascension and commended the people of Ukwu-Oba for their maturity and resilience throughout the selection process, the first after the people dumped gerontocracy for Kingship.

”Though there were challenges, the community has emerged stronger, more united and ready to embrace peace and progress,” the Governor stated, assuring the gathered crowd that the administration holds traditional rulers in high esteem and will continue to provide platforms for their contributions to governance and security.

He acknowledged specific requests from Ukwu-Oba, an agrarian community, asserting that his administration is committed to the delivery of the MORE Agenda which is focused on advancing infrastructure and rural development across the State.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that no community will be left behind in his developmental efforts.

He urged the people of Ukwu-Oba Kingdom, to rally behind their new monarch, stating that traditional rulers can only succeed with the full support, loyalty, respect, and cooperation of their people.

The Chairman, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Hon. Jude Chukwunwike in his address, noted that the local government will not relent in its duties to optimize the welfare of the new Obi and his colleagues within the limits of available resources.

He noted that, for meaningful development to be achieved in Ukwu-Oba community, the peace and security of the people should be of utmost importance to the newly installed Obi, disclosing that, “the journey to the presentation of Staff of Office, is a product of community’s resolution to transit from their old way of leadership where the leadership of the community was by the oldest man known as Okpala-Uku.

“It is pertinent to observe that the move for the transformation to a centralized monarchical system where the leadership is domiciled between two families on rotational basis was initiated by the community’s resolution after the demise of the last Okpala-Uku, that there should be a centralized rotational monarchy between Umuezeli and Umuogba families.”

Earlier, in a welcome address, the President General, Ukwu-Oba Development Association, Mr. Nwaebichi Mathias, appealed to the Governor for infrastructural intervention.

The event saw a large gathering of traditional rulers from Aniocha South and across Delta State, who were thanked for their steadfast role in maintaining peace and order in their Kingdoms.

Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of Staff of Office to Obi Cletus Nkeakam Ochei I of Ukwu-Oba Kingdom.

Oborevwori Donates Buses To Warri Wolves, Delta Queens Football Clubs

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has boosted the morale of the state’s top football teams with the donation of four brand-new buses to Warri Wolves and Delta Queens Football Clubs.

The governor, while presenting the vehicles on Wednesday, at Government House Asaba, said the gesture was aimed at motivating the teams to perform better in their domestic and international competitions. Each club received a Toyota Coaster bus and a Toyota Hiace bus.

Oborevwori explained that the donation was prompted by recent challenges faced by the teams, including travel hitches due to old vehicles.

According to him, providing reliable and comfortable vehicles is part of his administration’s commitment to sports development in the State.

“Delta State is doing very well in sports across Nigeria. But we must continue to motivate our players to do even better,” the governor said.

“I was told recently that one of the teams had issues with their vehicle on the road because the vehicle is old. I immediately directed the procurement of two Coaster buses and two Hiace buses, one set for Warri Wolves and the other for Delta Queens.”

He charged the players and officials to remain focused and committed, noting that the state government always rewards excellence.

“This is to motivate you. When you win matches and medals, we pay your bonuses promptly. We want you to keep striving, keep winning, and keep making Delta proud,” Oborevwori added.

Head Coach of Delta Queens, Samson Keshi, and Team Captain, Owoeye Temitope, who spoke on behalf of the team, lauded the governor for what they described as an unprecedented gesture.

They said the gesture was a great feat, adding that they have not received such support before and assured that they would strive harder to win laurels for Delta state.

With both teams currently competing in the nation’s top leagues, the donation is expected to enhance their logistics, boost their morale, and overall performance as Delta continues to consolidate its reputation as the sporting capital of Nigeria.

NGO, NEED to Governor Oborevwori: Introduce CNG Buses to Alleviate Transportation Burden in Delta

NGO, NEED to Governor Oborevwori: Introduce CNG Buses to Alleviate Transportation Burden in Delta

By: Celestine Ukah

Due to transportation challenges facing many in Delta, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Niger Delta Entrepreneurship and Economy Network (NEED), has urged the Delta State Governor, RT. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to introduce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses as part of a public initiative to alleviate the transportation burden in the State.

NEED, in its open letter to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori sent to this news platform Wednesday October 1, 2025, signed by the National Coordinator Classics Oke Oteri, Tony Udaya, Delta State Coordinator, and Olubode Olumoye, National Publicity Secretary, respectively, said low-income earners, who form the majority in Delta State, mostly work and conduct small businesses in cities while residing in suburban areas. Due to high transportation costs, this group often ends up with little or nothing at the end of each month.

They noted that 30% to 50% of small and medium enterprises’ SMES earnings are spent on transportation alone, a situation they described as truly demoralizing.

Here’s the full statement:

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE

The Governor,
Delta State Government,
Government House,
Asaba, Delta State.

Cc: The Speaker,
Delta State House of Assembly,
House of Assembly Complex,
Asaba, Delta State.

ADVOCATING FOR CNG BUSES TO ENHANCE TRANSPORTATION IN DELTA STATE AS NIGERIA CELEBRATES 65 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE

Your Excellency,

We hope this letter finds you in excellent health and high spirits. We are writing as concerned citizens and entrepreneurs of our great state, deeply appreciative of your administration’s efforts to improve the quality of life for all residents and grow the state economy. Your commitment to addressing pressing issues has been commendable, and we are confident that our suggestion will align with your vision for a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous Delta.

As Nigeria joyously marks her 65th Independence Anniversary today, 1st of October 2025, a day declared a public holiday by the Federal Government, we reflect on our nation’s progress and look towards a brighter future. This milestone reminds us of the importance of unity, patriotism, and collective efforts toward national development, encapsulated in this year’s Independence theme:
“Nigeria @ 65: All Hands On Deck”

The Transportation Challenge in Delta State
As you are aware, transportation has remained a critical aspect of our daily living. Unfortunately, the current state of transportation in our state has become a cause for concern, especially in terms of productivity. Low-income earners, who form the majority in the state, mostly work and conduct small businesses in cities while residing in suburban areas. Due to high transportation costs, this group often ends up with little or nothing at the end of each month. Almost 30% to 50% of their earnings are spent on transportation alone – a truly demoralizing situation.

Moreover, business owners face challenges in securing competent employees due to transportation costs. Some settle for less qualified staff living close to their offices, impacting productivity. For instance, school owners might prefer hiring less competent teachers nearby because they can’t afford salaries factoring in transportation costs for more skilled teachers. Undoubtedly, teacher quality affects student outcomes; this issue extends to other sectors requiring skilled jobs.

Proposal for CNG Buses
To alleviate this burden, we humbly propose that the Delta State government explores acquiring Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses as part of a public transportation initiative. CNG buses offer:

– Affordability: CNG is significantly cheaper than traditional fuels, reducing transportation costs.
– Environmental Benefits: CNG is cleaner, producing fewer emissions, aligning with sustainability goals.
– Economic Growth: Investing in CNG buses can create jobs in maintenance, fueling stations, and related industries.

Conclusion
We trust this appeal will receive your kind consideration. Implementing CNG buses can transform transportation in Delta State, enhancing productivity, supporting economic growth, and improving citizens’ welfare. As Nigeria celebrates 65 years of independence, let Delta State embrace initiatives fostering progress.

Singed:

– Classics Oke Oteri

– Tony Udaya
Delta State Coordinator, NEED
