Abia Warriors Boss, Obuh Hails Gov Otti Over ABSSU Games
The Chairman of Abia Warriors Football Club, Coach John Sam Obuh has lauded the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for successfully organising the 2nd edition of the Abia State Secondary Schools Unity Games, held at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
The event brought together young sports talents from the 17 local government areas of Abia State, showcasing their skills even as they competed for laurels.
The event, which marked its 2nd anniversary, ultimately turned the State capital into a beehive of sports activities with a section of sports enthusiasts dubbing it Secondary Schools Olympics, achieved its primary objective as a platform for talent identification as well as fostering sports development.
Obuh appreciated Governor Otti saying, “I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dear Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, for the Abia State Secondary Schools Unity Games, which has come to stay. It is a laudable initiative that will no doubt identify young sports talents and give them the platform to develop.”
He highlighted Governor Otti’s holistic and unrelenting support for sports, which has seen the State play host to various national events.
“The second edition of the Unity Games is proof that the Governor is bent on ensuring the development of every sport in the State. As a sports-loving Governor, he has made sure that every sport receives the needed attention, that’s why Abia State has hosted numerous national sports events”, Obuh stated.
He continued, “When the Unity Games were organised last year, many thought it was a one-off thing, but this year’s edition has shown it has come to stay. I commend His Excellency for this; he has ultimately turned the State into the home of sports.”
The curtain was drawn today at the one-week-long event. Over one thousand athletes competed for medals, even as prizes were given to deserving athletes.
