The Member Representing Warri Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives Honourable Chief Dr. Thomas Ereyitomi JP has charged Niger Deltans to explore the Blue Economy initiative of the federal government, describing the Niger Delta as a coastal treasure with over 853 kilometres of coastline abundant waterways, thriving ecosystems, and a strategic maritime corridor for Nigeria and West Africa.

Rep Ereyitomi noted that the Niger Delta waters sustain fishing, maritime logistics, oil and gas operations, transportation, tourism, and international trade.

The Warri Federal lawmaker who was speaking as a special guest of Honour at the concluding day of the 3-day Seminar and Capacity Building for Presidents General and Community Leaders Across the three Senatorial Districts of Delta held at Ugbuwangue Warri Delta South, Thursday December 11, urged PGS to take advantage of the Blue Economy and key into it.

Chief Ereyitomi emphasized on the quest for peaceful coexistence among Itsekiri Ijaw Urhobo, Isoko and other ethnic groups especially among the people of Delta South, even non tribes in order for development to be sustained and attracted to the areas.

Rep Ereyitomi in his keynote address said Peace is not the absence of disagreement, rather Peace is the ability to manage disagreement without destruction, adding that across Delta, “We know the issues of land boundaries, cultural pride, youth restiveness, political misunderstanding, and resource competition are rife. But today, as opportunities rise and national policies align in our favour, Delta State cannot afford division and unhealthy rivalries. Inter-tribal peace is no longer a moral plea; it is the currency of modern development.

“Where peace thrives, investors come, businesses flourish, government projects succeed, youths find direction, and communities prosper.

“The Tinubu administration, through the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, has opened a new chapter for coastal prosperity. The opportunities within the Blue Economy include: Maritime services and coastal employment Fish farming, processing and export, ship repair yards and logistics hubs, Waterfront tourism and hospitality, Delta port revival and corridor development, and expanded federal attention on coastal infrastructure. Further included are new local-content windows for youths and SMEs, enhanced development under NDDC masterplans

“These opportunities cannot survive where conflict is louder than cooperation. A businessman will not invest where violence is a possibility. A fisherman cannot grow in a creek troubled by crisis. Tourism cannot flourish in communities known for tension. Peace is the foundation of the blue economy. Without unity, our waters cannot work for us.

“Peace is the economic Infrastructure we must build. this therefore is the challenge to all Presidents-Generals. Let me say this clearly: Peace is our economic asset. Conflict is our economic liability. When a community is peaceful, people invest, collaborate, innovate, and return home to build”

The convener of the Seminar and Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Amb. Dr. Toyin Agbolaya JP commended Governor Oborevwori for all the good works he’s doing in Delta, he explained the More Agenda of his boss and some achievements so far to include sensitisation on peace and security, improved coordination between communication and MDAs, identifying community needs with State development priorities among others.
