The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has confirmed that work will commence soon on the 67 kilometers Omadino -Escravos road in Warri South and Warri South-West LGAs in Delta State.
The project, when completed, will boost economic activities in that local government as well as neighbouring riverine communities in the creeks.
The project, which is the result of a joint partnership between the NDDC and oil giant Chevron, is expected to complement the multi-billion naira bridge being undertaken by the Delta State government, which the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has promised to complete in record time.
NDDC made the revelation at a World Press briefing in Asaba on Monday, July 7, 2025, as part of activities to mark 25 years of the establishment of the commission.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director, emphasized the commission’s renewed focus on completing abandoned projects, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the lives of Niger Delta residents.
According to him, NDDC has spread its Renewed Hope Agenda to stakeholders across the region, prioritizing project completion and socio-economic development.
He posited that abandoned projects have been resuscitated, with some completed and commissioned, while new projects are being executed to benefit the people.
The Managing Director revealed that State offices are being constructed to replace rented facilities, and communities are being provided with solar lights to improve living conditions.
On education and healthcare, he disclosed that tablets have been distributed to school children, and the NDDC scholarship program is considered one of the best in the country. The commission’s health program is also highly regarded in the region.
The Commission, he said, aims to tackle food insecurity by concentrating on agriculture and collaborating with state governments to fight crime and promote economic growth.
On legacy projects, he stated further that the commission will focus on completing abandoned legacy projects, including a 67-kilometer road in Omadino, Warri South LGA, Delta State, to be executed by Chevron.
Dr. Ogbuku said that NDDC was determined to attract foreign backing from international donors to support its development initiatives. He said that the commission will continue to work closely with the nine governors in the Niger Delta region to drive development and growth.
He disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has shown significant interest in the NDDC’s activities, ensuring adequate funding and support for the commission’s initiatives.
