**Charges Oborevwori To Take A Hard Line Against Criminals

Members of Concerned Journalists Forum (CJF), Nigeria, condemn in strong words, the recent kidnap of the Chairman of Sapele LGA, Hon. Bright Afure Abeke by yet to be identified gunmen, on Friday, 10 April, 2026.

CJF notes with Concern, the gestapo manner the kidnap operation was carried out with little or no resistance, suggesting that the kidnappers had a field day while their operation lasted.

CJF seriously frowns at this unfolding and alarming development and expresses worry about worsening crime rate in Delta State, a scary development that sternly calls on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to take proactive and decisive measures to stem the tide and ensure the safety of Deltans.

In a statement released by the Chairman, Comrade Emeka Nwokocha Onbehalf of the Forum, CJF notes with dismay that the safety of Deltans are oftentimes discussed and assured on symposiums and speech-making sessions, but not much action is practically put in place to protect lives and property of Deltans as guaranteed by Section 14(2b) of the 1999 constitution, as amended.

On this note, CJF reiterates its Concern about the erosion of public trust for government institutions whose responsibility it is to protect lives and properties of the citizens.

To frontally tackle this heinous crime head-on, CJF calls on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to demand better commitment from the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi to rid the state of criminal elements whose murderous activities have gotten worse across the state in recent months.
