Comrade Asekutu elected Chairman Trade Union Congress, TUC, Delta State Council
Comrade Wilson Asekutu has been elected as Chairman TUC Delta State Council unopposed at the first quadrennial delegates conference of Trade Union Congress Delta State Council at Asaba.
President General of Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo represented by Comrade Oluchi-Favour Ubani said the peaceful transition of the Delta State TUC was a reflection of the maturity of her Democratic process and shared resolve to build a stronger and more resilient Congress at all levels.
Comrade Osifo congratulated the new executive committee and prayed that their tenure will be marked by renewed energy, unwavering dedication and impactful service.
He commended the outgone Executive for laying a solid foundation and for their selfless service in positioning the union on the path of progress.
The President General of TUC, said millions of Nigerian workers and their families are groaning under the harsh economy and called on government at all levels to act decisively and compassionately.
The immediate past Chairman of Delta State Council of TUC, Comrade Martins Bolum represented by Comrade Kenneth Okwudi and other leaders present in their good will messages congratulated the new executive and urged them to prioritize workers welfare
A motion was moved for the dissolution of the Comrade Bolum Martins led executive for the Returning Officer, Comrade Oluchi-Favour Ubani to commence the election processes for a new executive.
At the end of the proceedings and the executive of Delta TUC led by Comrade Wilson Asekutu was elected unopposed and sworn in to pilot the affairs of Delta State Council of Trade Union Congress, TUC, for the next four years.
In his acceptance speech, chairman of Delta State Council of TUC, Comrade Wilson Asekutu thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the executive and promised not to disappoint them.
Comrade Asekutu thanked the President General of TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo and his predecessor Comrade Bolum Martins for their support and promised to confront headlong the casualisation of workers, unsafe workplace, poor wages, job insecurity and promote unity among members.
Those elected are Comrade Wilson Asekutu, Chairman, Comrade Okafor Henry, Secretary, Comrade Umoru Idowu, Treasurer, Comrade Orhuerakpor Jude, Assistant Secretary, and Comrade Moses Agware, Public Relations Officer.
Others are Comrade Festus George, Auditor, Comrade Leo Omoreigie, Financial Secretary, Comrade Blessing Ekpe, Chairperson TUC, WC, and Comrade Emeshili Secretary TUC, WC.
