Drug Abuse: Communities serve as safe havens for users – Prof. Ezenwa

By: Celestine Ukah

Prof. Michael Ezenwa says the rising drug abuse in Nigeria is prevailing more in communities that do not have the presence of security agencies.

Prof. Ezenwa, on Friday, July 11, urged the NDLEA and other security agencies to focus more on rural areas in order to address the drug abuse ravaging Nigerian youths.

According to him, young people from ages 15 to 64 are affected, especially in Kano State and Lagos State and in other parts of the country.

Prof. Ezenwa, who is also the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, cautioned against indiscriminate and untrained persons coming to speak on drug abuse; instead of demarketing, they unknowingly encourage it.
