Mai Samba, Kano Pillars Chairman, Leads NPFL Club Chairmen to Mourn Sports Icon Abba Abdullahi Yola

The Chairman of Kano Pillars, Alhaji Alinayara Mai Samba, has led a delegation of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Club Chairmen currently in Kano to express their deepest condolences to the family of the late Abba Abdullahi Yola, the Kano State Government, and the entire Nigerian sports community.

The respected sports administrator, fondly known as Chiroman Yola, passed away in the early hours of Friday, June 20th, 2025, after a period of illness.

As a mark of solidarity and respect, the Chairmen of Niger Tornadoes and Katsina United were among those who arrived in Kano on Thursday afternoon, June 26th, 2025, to join in the condolence visit and offer prayers for the late sports icon.

In his remarks, Alhaji Alinayara Mai Samba described the late Abba Yola as an astute administrator and a pillar in the development of Nigerian sports.

“Abba Yola served Nigeria with distinction in various capacities, including as Assistant Director and later as Chief of Staff to the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare. He also made significant contributions as the former Chairman of Kano Pillars Football Club,” Alinayara stated.

The Kano Pillars Chairman prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the bereaved family the strength to bear this immense loss and to admit the late Abba Yola into Jannatul Firdaus as his final abode.

The legacy and remarkable contributions of the late Abba Abdullahi Yola to the advancement of sports in Nigeria will be remembered for generations to come.
