A mechanic whose identity is yet unknown and other passengers in commercial tricycles have both lost their lives in a fatal accident at Udu Local Government Area, Delta State.
The tragic incident, which occurred around noon on Monday, July 14, at the popular Udu bridge linking the other part of Udu to Uvwie and Warri South, caused a heavy traffic gridlock on the axis with no movement of vehicles, tricycles, and others.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the ugly incident occurred as the truck belonging to Julius Berger, attempting to overtake a commercial tricycle also known as a Keke, collided with the stationary trailer while the mechanic was working under it.
The impact caused the trailer to topple, crushing three moving tricycles with passengers.
The fatal accident affected economic activities as workers, students, and traders coming into Warri and its environs were severely affected, with many forced to seek alternative routes on foot as emergency response couldn’t be seen on time to respond to the situation, which grounded commercial activities in the area.
