As the world marks World Mental Health Day today, Friday, October 10, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ogbotor Mental Health Foundation, Dr. Adjeketa Theophilus, says seeking help is a form of self-love for those suffering from any mental health challenge.
Dr. Theophilus stated this while commemorating this year’s Global Mental Health Day celebration in Sapele, Delta State, with the theme: “ACCESS TO CARE: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.” It’s a day set aside by the United Nations Organization to reflect on the issues surrounding the causes, course, and treatment of mental health-related issues.
The event is done in collaboration with CT Medicals. The mental health expert, Dr. Theophilus, urged those with issues concerning mental health illness to always look for dependable and reliable professionals for help.
According to Ogbotor Mental Health Foundation CEO, Dr. Theophilus, people can visit the care center located at Warri-Sapele Road, Ikwegwu, Sapele, and it is an NGO that has saddled itself with the responsibility of carrying out regular public enlightenment campaigns, rendering outpatient services, as well as admission services for those with any form of mental issues.
This year, the Ogbotor Mental Health Foundation has taken the campaign against hard drugs and drug abuse, among others, to public schools around Sapele and its environs, with a lecture to create more awareness against the menace of drug use and other illicit substances that are major causes of mental illness among young adults, especially in society.
Here’s Dr. Adjeketa’s address during the 2025 World Mental Health Day celebration in Sapele, Delta State:
Dear Nigerians,
“Today, being the 10th of October, is World Mental Health Day. It is a day set aside by the United Nations Organization to reflect on the issues surrounding the causes, course, and treatment of mental health-related issues. The theme for this year is ACCESS TO CARE: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies. There are many situations in our country today that require emergency attention. This includes issues of insecurity, the economy, and unemployment, among others.
“Those who are able to are leaving the country daily to seek better lives in other parts of the world, a phenomenon that has been tagged “japa syndrome.” For those of us who cannot leave for now, we are restrained to continue to suffer the consequences of these issues facing our country. Many individuals are beginning to develop one form of mental illness or another while our productive youths are now living on hard drugs. Where do we run to for help? That is why the theme’s focus is on ACCESS TO CARE.
“It is good news to say that we can access care, counsel, and psychological support that will help us cope with the mental health experts around us. In our state, there is a unit at the Federal Medical Center Asaba, the Central Hospital Warri, Central Hospital Agbor, and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital Oghara. In our sister state of Edo, there is a Department of Mental Health at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), and there is also a Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Uselu, Benin City.
“The Ogbotor Mental Health Foundation, located in Sapele, is an NGO that has saddled itself with the responsibility of carrying out regular public enlightenment campaigns, rendering outpatient services, as well as admission services for those with any form of mental health issues.
“Seek help today. Seeking help is a form of self-love. Wishing you a happy Mental Health Day celebration while we look and work towards a better Nigeria for us all.
