Delta State Trade Union Congress announced Wilson Asakuku as its new Chairman

Delta State Trade Union Congress have announced Comrade Wilson Asakuku as the Union Chairman in Deira State after a unanimous vote for him

The ceremony which held November 20, 2025 in Asaba drew delegates from every affiliate, underscoring the broad support for his leadership.

Background
Wilson hails from the quiet village of Tsekelewu in the Egbema Kingdom, Warri North LGA. He holds a B.Sc. in Geology and an M.Sc. in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, and has built a solid career as a senior technical professional with Chevron Nigeria Ltd. He’s also an active PENGASSAN member, serving on the Warri Zonal Committee, the Central Working Committee, and the National Executive Committee.

Election Outcome
The vote was a decisive mandate, Wilson secured a clear majority, with delegates citing his deep industry knowledge and proven grassroots union engagement as the key reasons for his overwhelming support.

Vision and Priorities
In his acceptance address he laid out a strategic agenda:Enhancing collective bargaining power* to win better wages, safety standards, and comprehensive benefits across public and private sectors.Expanding capacity‑building programmes* with technical training and professional development to ready members for the evolving energy landscape.

Strengthening coordination between TUC leadership and affiliates to keep workers’ welfare at the heart of every policy.

The Delta State TUC is excited to work under Wilson’s leadership, confident that his blend of corporate insight and grassroots passion will drive real progress for the state’s labour force and the wider Niger Delta region.
