Three Nigerian wrestlers have arrived Brazzaville, Congo ahead of Central African Wrestling Championship, a tournament that will feature both Senior and U17 age categories across Freestyle (FS), Greco-Roman (GR), and Women’s Wrestling (WW) styles.

The delegation which included Andrew Woyinkorikiye 53kg (WW), Precillia Archbone 45kg (WW), and Terry Godfrey 65kg (FS) alongside coach Kingkuro Oyinbrakemi Tangi, and Nigeria Wrestling Federation Assistant Secretary, Abigail Ibrahim touched down in Brazzaville on Sunday.

The Central African Wrestling Championship, which is aimed to promote the sport of wrestling, develop local talent, and foster regional unity and cultural exchange in the continent will commence hostility on Monday

Nigeria’s participation in this international tournament signals another intentional moment from the board of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation headed by Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, in identifying and nurturing young wrestlers by providing them with a highly competitive continental platform to refine their technical, physical, and tactical skills.

Recall just recently, the Wrestling Federation President sponsored four wrestlers to Mongolia in the UWW organised Ranking Series Tournament where Nigeria won one silver and two bronze

It is no news since the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service assumed office as President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, his clear mandate has been to consolidate on laid down programmes of the immediate past administration.

Stressing his objective to elevating the standard of the sport across the country through the exposure of athletes to international tournaments and creating educational workshops and training camps to upskill coaches and officials.
