400 Ngbilebiri II Residents Benefit from N50,000 Councillors’ Empowerment Scheme

No fewer than 400 residents of Ngbilebiri II Ward 8 in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State have benefited from an empowerment initiative facilitated by their elected councillors to support small-scale businesses and assist vulnerable members of the community.

Each beneficiary received N50,000 under the scheme, facilitated by the two councillors representing the ward, Hon. Kpemusiobe Adama and Hon. Clement Wagha.

The initiative, which attracted All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders from the area, is part of efforts to extend government support to the grassroots through elected councillors, with emphasis on strengthening small businesses and improving the livelihoods of less privileged residents.

Speaking at the event, the councillors said the intervention was informed by the need to bring the dividends of government closer to the people, particularly those struggling to sustain their businesses and meet their daily needs.

They expressed appreciation to the state government for the initiative and assured residents that more empowerment opportunities would be pursued to improve the economic well-being of the people.

The Commissioner for Riverine and Infrastructure Development, Chief Ebikeme Clark, commended the councillors for ensuring that the programme reached the intended beneficiaries, describing the intervention as a practical demonstration of grassroots engagement and support for local livelihoods.

Clark urged residents to sustain their support for President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, arguing that returning both leaders for a second term would provide an opportunity to consolidate on their respective administrations’ achievements.

He said the governor had consistently acknowledged the role of the President in creating the enabling environment for his administration to deliver development projects and programmes in Delta State.

“I won’t lead you astray or deceive you because the facts are clear. The governor is saying today that if you love me, love Tinubu, because that is the man making it possible for him to do what he is doing for Deltans.

“He doesn’t want to take the glory to himself alone. So, give the governor a second chance and give the President his second chance. I believe much more will come to our country, our state and our community,” he said.

Representing the Chairman of Burutu Local Government Council, Hon. Julius Takeme, the Secretary to the Council, Roland Ombe, also applauded the initiative, noting its importance in providing financial support to residents at the community level.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the organisers, saying the N50,000 grant would help them replenish their stocks, expand their businesses and improve their capacity to provide for their families.

The exercise, which brought together community and youth leaders, APC stakeholders and party faithful, highlighted the role of elected grassroots representatives in connecting government interventions with the needs of ordinary residents.
