Abia State Police Command set to Celebrate International Youth Day August 20
The Abia State Police Command In line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to promote youth engagement and strengthen community policing nationwide, the Abia State Police Command commemorates the International Youth Day under the National Youth and Security Initiative, themed *“Different Context, Common Aspirations.”
The event is scheduled to hold on Thursday August, 20 2026, and is aimed at engaging young people in promoting peace, security, and responsible civic participation, while addressing pressing societal and security challenges affecting youths across the nation.
Activities in commemoration of the event will commence with a Walkathon at 7:30 AM prompt from Okpara Square, Umuahia, designed to promote unity, awareness, and encourage youth participation in community policing efforts.
The main event will take place at 2:00 PM prompt at the Police Officers’ Mess, opposite Damgrete Hotel, Umuahia. The programme will feature the launch of the National Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery with the theme: *“My Future is Greater than Political and Digital Thuggery.”* and a moderated Police–Youth Dialogue Session aimed at fostering meaningful engagement between law enforcement and young people, strengthening mutual trust, and promoting collaborative approaches to tackling security challenges.
According to statement made available Wednesday August 19 by DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, LLB, Anipr, MNIPS, Police Public Relations Officer, FOR: Commissioner Of Police Abia State Command said The Commissioner of Police Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutunbo Afolabi PSC+, mnips, JP encourages youths and relevant stakeholders to participate actively in the programme, as it provides a platform for constructive dialogue and partnership in building a safer society.
The Command reiterates its commitment to youth inclusion in security discourse and assures members of the public of its continued efforts in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development in Abia State.
