Delta: Uzere Oil Spill Still Ongoing Since June, Says IDU President General, Prof. Akpotu

The President General of the Isoko Development Union, IDU, Prof. Chris Akpotu, has decried the continued oil spill at Uzere Community in Isoko South LGA, Delta State.
Prof. Akpotu said the spill was first noticed June 26 and has remained unchecked till date, with no response from the company operating the wells.
He lamented the negligence of Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, HEOSL, operator of OML 30 in Uzere, noting that five weeks after the incident, there has been no proper measure to contain the blowout. This, he said, has sparked concerns over environmental damage and threats to livelihoods.
The IDU President called on Heritage Energy to pay compensation to the affected community and to carry out a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment to restore aquatic life and soil damaged by the spill.
Prof Akpotu who was Speaking live on AIT’s Kakaaki morning show Friday, August 7, appealed to the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, NNPC, NUPRC, NOSDRA, NEMA and other relevant government agencies to urgently intervene to safeguard lives and property in Uzere Community.
