Ijaw, Urhobo to INEC: failure to implement Supreme Court judgment on Wards delineation, they won’t be election in Warri Fed Constituency
Indigenous people of Ijaw and Urhobos in Warri Federal Constituency in Delta State Monday May 4 declared that there will be no election in Warri Federal Constituency in 2027 if the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC fails to implement the Supreme Court judgment on the delineation of the polling units and wards in the Warri Federal Constituency.
The people said this at the just concluded world conference held at KFT event centre in Ugboroke, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State.
They said it is not a threat stressing that, their confirmation will confirm their actions.
A leader of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Chief Victor Okumagba vowed that they will use every means possible noting, “We shall use all our possible means necessary to ensure that there is no election in the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State in 2027.”
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to implement the report painstakingly embarked upon by stakeholders.
The Fiowei of ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, High Chief Godspower Gbenekama disclosed that after their last press conference on the same matter, they were invited into the office of the Department of State Service,nDSS. “We cannot keep quiet in the face of oppression. We cannot pretend any longer. It is not a threat. It will be different for us to participate in the process that INEC is trying to conduct.”
Chief Gbenekama noted that the IJaws and Urhobos have not only been starved politically, they have also been punished economically. He said if the people cannot be allowed to exercise their rights but the Federal Government will continue to use their resources to feed the Country, “We are tired of talking to our youths and women. The storm is building. We are ready to bear whatever brunt the President brings.”
“President Emilokan, if you want to favour your in-laws, we are also your in-laws. You will not take our resources to feed your wife. Our women, youths, children will resist it. A word is enough for the wise.”
A representative of Ogbe-Ijoh Kingdom, the Alaowei Warri, Chief Denbo Denbofa Oweikpodor said INEC has been directed by the Supreme Court to implement the report on the delineation of Warri Federal Constituency which he said is the constitutional rights of the people.
“The beneficiaries of the judgment wants to enjoy their judgment.”
He said the failure for INEC to comply with the Supreme Court’s judgment the Ijaw and Urhobo people are very ready to do what they want to do.
He warned that,”INEC should not take them back to dark ages of crisis in Warri Federal Constituencies” pointing that the Federal Government is trying to make Government of Governor,Sheriff Oborevwori unbearable with its action.”
He added, “It is not a threat but a reality” stressing that it is the turn of the Ijaws and Urhobo people of Warri just the President claimed during his electioneering campaign in 2023 that,”Emilokan”(Meaning,it’s my turn).
A representative of Isaba Community, Chief Emmanuel Secondi said INEC is playing games with the delineation of polling units and wards in Warri Federal Constituency.
He said, “INEC has failed. INEC is evil, unconstitutional, INEC is bias to the people of Warri Federal Constituency. No delineation, No election, No politics.”
A Woman leader from Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Chief(Mrs ) Onome Okumagba urged the organization to do the needful.
She said the Supreme Court judgment must go on before any election. “INEC has responsibility else, No election. The Federal Constituency, we will hold it. No election will go on.”
A Woman leader from Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Vero Tangbowei Emmanuel urged INEC to do the needful by implementing the Supreme Court judgment with a warning not to push the Ijaw and Urhobo people to the world from now till the end of the month of May. “You will see what women can do.”
A cleric from Diebiri Community, Rev. Akoh Samuel who also lend his voice said there will be no election in 2027 if INEC fails to implement the report.
A representative from Egbema Kingdom,Chief David Keje who pointed out the map released by INEC to the audience called on the ECOWAS, US and other world leaders to take note of the happenings in Warri Federal Constituency. He also said there will be no election, stressing they will no longer take any pleas from INEC. “All what we need are our polling units and wards, anything outside that will be visited by the wrath of the Ijaws and Urhobos. We’ll withhold the flow of oil because you cannot thwart our efforts.”
Some youth leaders also bear their minds on the matter with warning that INEC implement the report in the interest of peace,fairness and justice as time waits for no one.
