Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Ayirimi Emami, has dismissed social media speculations regarding alleged coup plot, expressing confidence in the resolve of the military to safeguard the country’s democracy and back the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Chief Emami, who spoke vehemently against any attempt to truncate the nation’s flourishing democratic journey, particularly the fruitful socio-economic reforms of President Tinubu, asserted: “The military are doing their work, I don’t want to believe that social media speculations.

“None of us will support the idea of coup, if they say they want to carryout coup, we will come out and fight them. I will not support anybody, who wants to partake in coup, whether the person is my friend or my brother.”

The Itsekiri leader, who spoke at Abuja, Wednesday October 29, on the backdrop of speculations that the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, was quizzed by security agencies as it relates to funding of the purported coup plot, averred: “Investigations are ongoing, as far as I am concern, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, is a perfect man, he is doing what he ought to do for our region, I am a no-nonsense man, if you are doing the right thing, I will support you, but if you are doing nonsense, I will come out and drag you.

“For the first time, the NDDC has a proper vision and structure, because of the leadership of the Chairman, Chiedu Ebie and the MD, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku. You can see pockets of projects across the region, meaningful projects, like the Omadino/Escravos Road Project, expected to commence any moment from now. The initiation came through the NDDC.

“It takes a very good leader to have that kind of vision and how to direct their Board. The young man (Dr. Samuel Ogbuku) is equally preaching about Mr. President and whatever he is doing, is in support of President Tinubu. President Tinubu ensures that the agency is stable for the first time in the region. This is the first time the Chairman and the MD are working together.

“Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has been able to light up the Itsekiri areas with solar light, students can now come out and read at night with the help of the light. If you go to Imo state, similar things are happening there, road projects are ongoing, so also is shore protection.”

Chief Emami, who acknowledged the pains many Nigerians are experiencing due to the subsidy removal, expressed reservations regarding the 15% import duty on petrol and diesel, just as he posited that the policy would yield long term benefits “such as promoting local production of petrol and diesel.”
