Some football stakeholders who watched the President Federation Cup final at the Stephen Keshi Stadium have expressed disappointment over the standard of play displayed by both finalists, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri and Ikorodu City of Lagos.
El-Kanemi Warriors emerged champions after defeating Ikorodu City to lift the trophy and secure Nigeria’s ticket to the next CAF Confederation Cup.
Despite celebrating the victory, several stakeholders at the stadium described the overall quality of the match as below expectations, saying both teams struggled to produce the level of football expected in a national cup final.
Many of those present advised El-Kanemi Warriors to strengthen their squad with quality additions before embarking on their continental campaign.
According to them, significant reinforcement will be necessary if the Maiduguri-based club hopes to compete successfully against stronger opposition in the CAF Confederation Cup.
They stressed that improving the team’s depth, technical quality, and overall performance will be crucial to avoiding another disappointing outing for Nigerian clubs on the continental stage
