Ugbomro FC Clinches 11th Olu of Warri Community Peace Cup

Ugbomro Community Football Club of Uvwie LGA in Delta Central has emerged winner of the 11th edition of the Olu of Warri Community Peace Cup in a keenly contested grand finale in Warri, Delta State.

The final, which was played at the Nana College field, Warri, was decided by a penalty shootout after both teams, Ugbomro Community FC and Ugbuwangue Community FC Warri South battled to a stalemate at the end of the regulation 90 minutes.

The 2026 edition of the tournament featured 35 registered community football teams and was played across four venues as part of efforts to promote peace, unity and youth development in Warri and environs.

The chairman of Iwere Sports Centre, organisers of the competition, Coach Toritseju Igbiaye, said that the tournament was conceived as a platform for using sports to foster peace, unite communities and engage youths productivity, while also identifying and nurturing future Nigerian football stars from the grassroots.

Igbiaye said the Local Oganising Committee ( LOC), which he coordinates under the royal patronage of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, the Olu of Warri, was committed to sustaining the competition as a vehicle for peace and community integration.

the 11th Edition of Olu of Warri Community Peace Cup tournament was played at four (4) venues with the grand finale played at Nana College field, Warri, Delta State.

The Olu of Warri Community Peace Cup 2026 Edition featured thirty-five (35) registered football teams that participated in the tournament aimed at promoting peace and unity in Warri and Delta State.

The chairman of Iwere Sports Centre, the organizer of the Olu of Warri Community Peace Cup, Coach Toritseju Samuel Igbiaye said that the vision to use sports as a tool was designed to promote peace and unite the people of Warri and environs and engage youth productivity and to produce the next generation of Nigerian football stars from the grassroots.

Coach Igbiaye said that, the Olu of Warri Community Peace Cup, he coordinates the Local Organizing Community (LOC) under the royal patronage of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, was committed to sustaining the competition as a vehicle for peace and community integration.

According to him “We envisioned a platform where our sons and daughters across every creeks, riverine settlements and urban ward of Warri can wear the jersey of pride, speak one language of peace. Sports for us, is culture in motion. It is diplomacy without politics, it is the fastest way to remind the world that Itsekiri talent, discipline and hospitality remain second to none.”

He said, the Peace Cup was established not only to promote football but also strengthen unity, peace, love and youth development across communities.

Coach Igbiaye added that the royal blessing of the Olu of Warri had given the tournament greater significance.

“His Majesty, Atuwatse III, CFR graciously gave the tournament his royal name and blessing. The peace cup exists to honour the throne, to heal old divides and to build new bridges for peace and unity. We will continue to run this tournament with transparency, with respect for traditional institutions, and with the sole aim of projecting Itsekiri excellence to Nigeria.”

Coach Igbiaye expressed appreciation to the sponsors and volunteers and participating teams for supporting the vision and contributing to the success of the 2026 edition.

At the presentation ceremony, the Uwangue of Warri Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Awala (JP) who represented the Olu of Warri , Atuwatse III, CFR, presented the trophy and a cash prize of N3 million to Ugbomro Community Football Club, the champion of the 11th edition. Other outstanding players and categories were also rewarded with prizes at the ceremony.
