Embracing Peace: A Collective Responsibility for Warri’s Progress
By: Dr. Rose Obi
Being a Press Release by Southern Women Empowerment Forum, Delta State Chapter
The Southern Women Empowerment Forum (SWEF) urges the three ethnic groups that make up Warri to see themselves as one and embrace peace. The memories of the 1999 communal war still linger, and we must learn from the past to build a brighter future. However costly peace may be, it is still cheaper than the cost of even the smallest war. Observing the massive infrastructure developments championed by the Oborevwori-led administration in Warri environ, with some projects already completed and others ongoing, we cannot afford to revisit the devastation and trauma of the past.
We call on leaders across the ethnic groups to continue preaching peace and avoid inflammatory language and rhetoric capable of causing anarchy. Their voices matter, and their influence can shape the narrative towards peace and progress. We urge all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect. Let us work together to build a Warri where diversity is celebrated, and unity is our strength.
The Southern Women Empowerment Forum remains committed to promoting peace, empowerment, and development in Delta State. We believe that together, we can achieve greatness and create a brighter future for generations to come.
