Gov. Diri Inaugurates Boards of Tertiary Institutions
**charges appointees to strengthen institutional performance

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has inaugurated the Boards of Bayelsa State-owned Tertiary Institutions at the Education House Conference Hall of the Ministry of Education in Yenagoa.
Performing the inauguration ceremony of the Boards, Governor Douye Diri, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Hon. (Dr. Gentle Emelah), charged the newly appointed Chairmen and Board Members to work collaboratively with management and relevant stakeholders to strengthen institutional performance, improve service delivery, and sustain the gains recorded in the Education Sector.
He said the inauguration of the Boards reflects the resolve of the government to deepen institutional governance, enhance accountability, and improve the effective delivery of education across the state, adding that the Boards are central to the implementation of government policies and are entrusted with the responsibility to provide oversight, strategic direction, and institutional discipline across key agencies in the education sector.
Governor Diri told the members of the Boards that their selection and appointment are a recognition of their proven integrity, competence, experience, and capacity to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of education.
He placed on record that his administration’s deliberate investment in education infrastructure has created room for students from the state to excel in artificial intelligence, digital knowledge, coding, and robotics competitions, demonstrating exceptional creativity in a digital and technology-driven world.
The Bayelsa Governor informed that the National Examination Council recently recognized Bayelsa State as the state with the highest percentage of candidates who obtained 5 credits and above in the SSCE internal examinations since the inception of the Council and commended the exceptional achievement of Master Numa Precious Keme of Ido Comprehensive Secondary School, Ekeremor, who recorded 8 distinctions and 1 credit in the 2024 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.
Governor Diri also stated that the brilliant performance of Numa Precious Keme has earned him a nomination for the prestigious WAEC Vatebra Merit Award as the Best Overall Male Candidate from Public Secondary Schools in Nigeria.
The Bayelsa State Science and Technical Education Board has Professor Robert Zikeni Yelbe, Chairman, Professor Paul Binaebi Ogbongidi, Dr. Godwill Akpoebi, Professor Godwin Jackson, Professor Joy Naintenye Akporowhe, Dr. Pere-ere Diteini, Dr. Waribugo Sylva, Professor Young Tirunagha, Professor Nimine Ibilo Bridget, and the representative of the Ministry of Education, Ibirila Belema, as members.
Others include the representative of the Ministry of Science and Technical Education, Engr. Ekenemi Michael John Jonah, and SUBEB representative, Sunday Ayibaitari.
Dr. Joseph Izonbode Toru is Chairman of the Scholarship Board, and Jeremiah Ika serves as Secretary. Members are Ikoku Festus Akpiri, Dr. Rosemary Oweifari, Barr. Enebiye Dressman Awufigha, Barr. Roma Ekpikpa, and Blessing Erefa Omonibo, who is the representative of the Ministry of Education, while Asuewe Amana is representing the Ministry of Finance on the Board.
For the Teachers Training Registration and Certification Board, Dr. Stella Peremoboere Ogolo is the Chairman, with Mr. Zidejaha Alafuro, Engr. Ojobowei Teibowei, Thompson Omieworiyo, Chief Jessy Jerry Inenseigha, Chief Saturday Benson, Mrs. Tuku Ibakpa, Professor Victor Ayibaemi Torubele, and Mrs. Jennifer Amele as members. Dr. (Mrs.) Alatikpoere Abe was named representative of the Ministry of Education, SUBEB, Mr. Esaliba Jaja, and Mr. John Etor represents EPSC on the Board.
Basil Enarebebe was named Chairman of the Library Board, with Dr. Inieye Wodu, Dr. Supa Ondutimi, Madam Caro Ogbala, Suoyo Gamat Apo, Gboriga Godwin Commissioner, Victory Ebimene, Miss Embeleakpo Masa, Daufa Biobelemonye, Bomo Pelekeduwo, and Barr. Diekumo Egba as members.
The Chairman of the Teachers Training Registration and Certification Board, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Peremoboere Ogolo, on behalf of the newly inaugurated Board Members, gave the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to Governor Douye Diri for finding them worthy to serve the state.
She said the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Education and parastatals will make the job easier for them and expressed commitment to deliver on their mandate to move the education sector forward in the state.
Earlier, the Boards of Niger Delta University Amassoma, University of Africa, Toru-Orua, and College of Education Sagbama were inaugurated.
