2026 ISPON Day: Institute’s President, Udezi calls on Gov Oborevwori to Establish Safety Commission in Delta

The National President Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, ISPON, Chief Dr. Stephen Udezi has called on Delta State State Government led by the Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to Establish Safety Commission to tackle issues surrounding Safety activities in Delta State.
Chief Udezi made the call Friday May 22 during the 2026 ISPON Day celebration with the Theme: ‘Health and Safety Management in Nigeria, prospects retrospect’, held at Petroleum Training Institute PTI Conference Centre Effurun, Delta State, as part of programs to mark the 12th anniversary of the enactment of the ISPON act which was signed by former Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014.
The ISPON Boss commended Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwolu for establishing Safety Commission in the state, engaging personnel to work and handle safety related matters in the country’s commercial nerve centre of excellence as well as Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo for employing civil servants to aspire and grow to the level of director and their peak in service and for also offering office as well as engaging safety professionals as consultants in the State.
According to Chief Udezi any person who is practising safety without being registered with certification from ISPON is illegal and shall be prosecuted if discovered, warning quacks and those not complying to immediately visit ISPON offices on the way forward.
The Safety expert revealed that ISPON has collaborated with Head of Service of Nigeria, adding Safety isn’t domiciled in the Oil and Gas sector alone but in all strata in the Federal Ministry as they now have Safety Front desk and can also be employed as safety officer in the Civil Service.
Chief Udezi appreciated ISPON Past Presidents and all States Branch Chairmen for their support as well as the Governing Board for always being behind him for the successes recorded with his executive.
Whilst delivering his lecture, Chairman ISPON Rivers State, Shola Yemi Jonathan said over 2.3 million people die annually as a result of safety related accidents, noting that Nigeria lacks reliable data fatality record, just as he advocated for collaboration with relevant agencies for improvement in the country.
Delta State Chairman ISPON, Dr. Kingsley Unueroh appealed to the living to continue doing well so that they can be celebrated when they are no more.just as they are celebrating their past heroes and heroines.
Dr. Unueroh commended the ISPON National President, Chief Udezi for effective and quality leadership of the Institute.
The ISPON Day attracted members of the Institution across the country at large including Branch Chairmen from Abia, IMO Lagos , Oyo, Osun, Rivers State and Osun States.
High point of the ISPON Day were recognition of past and present Legends, exhibition as well as collaboration and networking.
