Usman Bature

The race toward African club football is already underway as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially fixed June 30 as the deadline for clubs to secure licences for next season’s interclub competitions.

Clubs aiming to compete in the prestigious CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup must now meet strict licensing requirements across five major areas Sporting, Infrastructure, Administrative, Legal, and Financial standards.

CAF’s latest directive is another strong move toward improving professionalism, organization, and overall quality of club football across the continent.

The governing body also confirmed that all head coaches and assistant coaches participating in the competitions must possess either a CAF A Licence or CAF Pro Licence from a recognised football association.

For many clubs, this is more than just paperwork it is a test of structure, ambition, and readiness to compete at the highest level in Africa. With the deadline approaching fast, teams must now step up both on and off the pitch to avoid missing out on continental football opportunities.
